Scenario Planning Tools

When faced with unprecedented challenges and an uncertain future due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, FJC embarked on a scenario planning exercise for the field of Jewish camp. In August and September 2020, FJC convened camp professionals and advocates from across the field to prepare for what the following 24 months may bring.

Why is scenario planning useful?

Scenario planning offers preparation for multiple possible futures, not just a single strategy. The process includes creating a portfolio of potential responses to these situations, which enables us to pivot quickly as key indicators emerge.

Using four main scenarios provided by Jewish Federations of North America, we were able to conduct a field-wide scenario planning exercise for Jewish camps. The resources we used to prepare for that exercise, the results of that exercise, and a toolkit for individual camps to conduct this exercise at an organization-level, are all included below.

If you have any questions about these resources or the scenario planning process, please contact Briana Holtzman at briana@jewishcamp.org.

With appreciation to Jewish Federations of North America and The Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel Foundation for their support for this initiative.
