How to Empower Self Advocacy for Campers with Disabilities
People with disabilities often know the accommodations and supports they need best, and that goes for our campers with disabilities as well! In this session, we spend time unpacking disability statistics and etiquette, providing key insight into why most campers may feel uncomfortable, and even avoid advocating for their needs. We end the session with key tools, techniques and resources for counselors to help empower your campers with disabilities to actively advocate for the supports and accommodations they need.
Inclusive Camp Spaces: Maximizing the Environment for All Campers
In this webinar we explore how to maximize camp spaces and the natural environment to support campers with and without disabilities. We also explore how campers utilize their sensory system to understand their environment and what support and accommodation counselors can provide to make the spaces at camp more accessible.
The Why Behind Perplexing Camper Behaviors
Sometimes camper behaviors can be confusing and frustrating. In this session, we discuss tips and tricks to determine the why behind these behaviors through real examples in the field. In addition, we learn how to approach these tough conversations with campers so that collaborative solutions can be put in place.
From Camp to Career: Building Job Skills & Inclusive Futures
In this session, we explore what the workforce looks like for individuals with disabilities and how camp can help build transferable job skills. We discuss how workplace readiness starts with small, everyday tasks that can be woven into camp activities. Most importantly, we brainstorm about how to be an advocate for campers, to create inclusive vocational opportunities that empower campers for their futures.
