Week 3: Jewish Migration in the 1900s

Objective

Explore how the rise of European anti-Semitism led to the moving of the Diaspora.

Instructions

Convene participants!

Review what they learned about maps and borders of Israel last week.

Introduce Jewish Migration in the 1900’s and the rise of anti-Semitism as the topic of the third week.

Ask participants where the Jewish people lived around the turn of the 20th Century.  They may not know anything. That’s okay. In that case, ask participants to take their best guess, based on what they have learned so far.

Hand out blank paper and instruct participants to think about their life today. Ask them, “ What’s vital to you?” Tell them to write a list of 5 things that they perceive as vital pieces of their life.

Have participants share some of vital pieces on their lists.

Close your convening by referring to their participant packets, week 3, where they will learn all about Jewish migration in the 1900’s, and the rise of anti-Semitism.
