Assistant Director – Camp and Afterschool

Camp Achva

Description

The Assistant Director of School-Age Services is a hands-on, day to day focused role overseeing our school-age programs, including Camp Achva, afterschool, vacation days, and teen programming. This role is about making sure camp-style programs run well day after day (i.e. staffed, safe, and steady) even when plans change or the pace picks up.

This position helps hold the details together: coordinating staff coverage, supporting supervisors, managing schedules and logistics, and translating policies and expectations into what actually needs to happen on the ground. The Assistant Director notices issues early, helps solve problems before they become emergencies, and supports inclusive practices as a natural part of daily camp and program life. When the Director is pulled elsewhere, this role helps keep things moving calmly and consistently.

This role is a strong fit for someone with camp, youth program, or school-age experience who likes responsibility more than spotlight. It’s not about creating new programs or setting big strategy so much as it’s about judgment, follow-through, and taking pride in programs that work the way they should.

Compensation

$45,000-$50,000

Requirements

What we’re looking for

Several years of experience in youth programs, camp, education, afterschool, or inclusion services
A track record of operational leadership in busy, real-world settings
Comfort working within safety, staffing, and regulatory requirements
Experience communicating with families and coordinating with multiple stakeholders
The ability to hold responsibility across more than one program at a time

Just as important, we’re looking for someone who:
Is reliable and follows things all the way through
Stays steady when things get busy or unpredictable
Keeps details, schedules, and people organized
Notices patterns and potential issues before they turn into problems
Can coordinate and influence others without needing formal authority
Respects systems, policies, and shared expectations
Approaches leadership with humility, accountability, and care

We know no one checks every box. If this role sounds like a good fit for how you work and what you value, we encourage you to apply.
