Description
Camp Harlam is seeking a Summer Communications Supervisor to lead and oversee a dynamic team of photographers, videographers, and digital media specialists. This role is essential in ensuring that the vibrant camp experience is effectively captured and shared with campers, families, and the broader community. The Communications Supervisor will be responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive media strategy, managing real-time content creation, and curating materials for post-season use, including social media and the yearbook.
As a key member of Camp Harlam’s Summer Leadership Team, the Communications Supervisor will play a pivotal role in overseeing digital storytelling, ensuring high-quality media coverage of major camp events, and maintaining an organized workflow for daily content updates. This individual will work closely with the Assistant Director, who provides direct supervision in order to align content creation with the camp’s brand, mission, and communication goals. Additionally, they will be expected to contribute to the overall success of camp operations by supporting broader leadership initiatives as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Supervision:
o Manage, mentor, and oversee a team of photographers, videographers, and digital media specialists.
o Provide ongoing guidance and support to ensure high-quality content production.
o Serve as a resource and role model for communications staff, fostering a positive and creative work environment.
o Conduct regular performance evaluations, offering constructive feedback and professional development opportunities.
o Lead department meetings to set goals, review progress, and coordinate upcoming projects.
Content Creation & Management:
o Develop a daily and weekly content strategy that captures the full scope of camp activities.
o Ensure the timely and organized uploading of photos to the Camp InTouch platform.
o Oversee the creation of a weekly slideshow to showcase camp highlights to the community.
o Monitor and maintain high standards for visual storytelling, ensuring content is engaging, inclusive, and aligned with camp values.
Strategic Oversight & Coordination:
o Track and prioritize coverage of major camp events, ensuring key moments are documented.
o Collaborate with the Assistant Director to determine content priorities and oversee the quality of media output.
o Optimize the use of staff time and resources, ensuring efficient workflow and content production.
o Assist in curating and organizing materials for offseason projects, including social media, marketing materials, and the camp yearbook.
Camp Leadership & Community Engagement:
o Participate in Supervisor and Leadership Team meetings, contributing insights and collaborating with other departments.
o Support camp programming by engaging with campers and staff, as practical.
o Uphold a strong commitment to safety, ensuring best practices in media production and overall camp operations.
o Assist with additional tasks as needed to support the smooth and successful operation of camp.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Experience in photography, videography, digital content creation, or social media management.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience, preferably in a camp, educational, or media-related setting.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance daily tasks and long-term projects.
• A creative eye for storytelling and capturing authentic moments in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Canva, or similar tools).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and support a team.
