Camp JORI is hiring an experienced full time Assistant Camp Director to join the team of our historic and successful resident Jewish summer camp located in Southern Rhode Island. The Assistant Director works in partnership with the Camp Director and as part of a dynamic team to coordinate, oversee, implement and evaluate all aspects of Camp operations. This includes but is not limited to: recruitment of campers and staff, camper retention, program development, staff hiring and training, and coordination with site managers. This position reports to the Camp Director and the President of the Board of Directors.


$50000 - $90000


Camp Season Responsibilities
• Reside on the camp property during the camp season, typically from early June through
late August;
• Supervise staff in a manner consistent with the values of Judaism and the camp. This
includes direct supervision of the kitchen and health center staff and functions. Ensure
that staff is regularly provided with feedback that results in a formal evaluation;

• Coordinate and provide oversight for transportation, living accommodations, and other
special and/or medical needs of campers and staff. Purchase required supplies for all
aspects of the camp;
• The Assistant Camp Director is supported by and supervises a staff of approximately 12-
adult and 60 college- and high school-aged staff.
About You
A successful candidate for this position will be able to:
• Identify and provide solutions to complex issues and concerns in a professional manner;
• Work under pressure, take direction, and work independently on time-sensitive projects;
• Provide ongoing charismatic support to colleagues and other camp staff;
• Support and maintain a high level of customer service to camp families;
• Maintain a high level of enthusiasm creating a camp culture of fun and joyful
• Remain flexible, creative and responsive.
• Minimum B.A. from an accredited college or university;
• Experience in directing youth programs and/or camps in a residential setting;
• Demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining campers in a competitive environment;
• Knowledge of program development, with an understanding of camp programming and
Jewish experiential education to create an overall outstanding camp experience;
• Background in Jewish camping or other Jewish educational experiences;
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing;
• Knowledge and commitment to “best practices” in the field.
