Description
The Assistant Director is responsible for working with the Director, ‘Z’ Frank Apachi on all planning, implementation, and oversight of all areas of camp. They will serve as a leader within the Agency by developing relationships with colleagues, community members, lay leaders and families.
Leadership & Strategy
Partner with Director to create and implement a forward-thinking vision for year-round recruitment of families, campers and staff for ‘Z’ Frank Apachi Day Camp
Work with Director to maintain and grow JCC’s reputation as a leader in the day camping industry
Programming
Develop specialties and elective programming for ‘Z’ Frank Apachi
In collaboration with the Director, create daily/weekly/monthly schedules for ‘Z’ Frank Apachi
Develop curriculum and activity kits for non-specialist led activities
Work with camp leadership teams on special events and theme day programming
Book field trips and coordinate transportation
Support Director in maintaining vendor relationships
Manage program supplies and inventory
Be actively engaged with agency colleagues in the planning and implementation of year-round family engagement activities for ‘Z’ Frank Apachi
Building of Team
Assist Director in staff recruitment and hiring processes, including interviewing, hiring, and training counselors and specialty staff
Assist Director in year-round staff engagement
Work with Director in developing and facilitating staff training and orientation schedule
Collaborate with the suburban camp team in creating robust programming and experiences for the community
Work with the Director in developing and facilitating administrative staff meetings
Communicate clear goals and expectations for all camp staff; provide informal feedback throughout the summer and formal evaluation at end of the summer
Customer Relationships
Maintain consistent contact with camp parents; answer questions, provide proactive communication and ensure customers know avenues available to them to provide feedback
Communicate with parents to solve any issues related to campers, registration and paperwork
Actively pursue an understanding of all JCC programs to steward families through Agency offerings
Actively pursue and manage site rentals in partnership with Director
Partnerships (Internal & External)
Build successful partnerships and synergy with Agency operations and program staff to support programs and serve as a strong partner
Build partnerships and relationships with a variety of local vendors, venues and partner agencies
Engage with ‘Z’ Frank Apachi community members throughout the year
Administration
Oversee distribution of supplies for programs
Learn and become proficient in the Agency databases, including CampMinder and UKG
Act as a knowledge base for programs and be able to cross-sell/up-sell programs across departments
Compensation
$60,000.00Requirements
Education Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Recreation or related preferred
Previous Experience:
4+ years previous leadership and supervisory experience in a camping environment; day camping experience highly preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of Jewish culture and values with previous Jewish programming experience preferred
Demonstrated success building new and expanding upon existing program areas that lead to customer engagement and meeting of business goals
Experience using social media tools on behalf of organization helpful
Other Requirements:
Ability to demonstrate and lead with JCC Chicago’s Four Core Values: Self-Leadership and Accountability, Creativity and Innovation, Teamwork and Collaboration, and Customer Service.
High level of proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), databases with the ability to learn other systems as necessary
Highly developed verbal and written communications, conflict management, listening and decision-making skills
Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license for at least 24 months, proof of insurance (with a minimum $250,000 liability)
Ability and willingness to travel to various JCC locations, as needed
JCC Chicago has a vaccination policy in place, and all candidates who are hired must either be vaccinated, start the vaccination process within their first two weeks of employment, or request a medical or religious exemption with HR within their first two weeks of their employment.
