Camp Gesher Assistant Director Position Description
The Assistant Director works with the Director to manage camp operations, camper care, recruitment and marketing, human resources, fundraising, and financial matters. The Assistant Director should have a desire to grow as a key member of a small year-round team of camp professionals who are dedicated to social justice, inclusion, youth empowerment, Jewish community, and Jewish education.
This full time position is based in Toronto, Ontario from September to May and in residence at Camp Gesher in Cloyne, Ontario from June through August. Weekend and evening hours are required, as is occasional travel.
This position reports to the Director and Chair(s) of the Board.

Marketing and Recruitment
Work with full time staff, board of directors and youth leadership to create and implement strategies for recruitment and retention of campers, with the goal of a full camp.
Create and produce camp promotional materials.
Advertising on social media.
Create presentations and activities for camp fairs and various community events.
Identify and reach out to new markets (e.g. small communities) to recruit new campers.
Collaborate with partner organizations to ensure that the camp is routinely in their newsletters and/or mailings.
Connect with leaders of Jewish day schools, religious schools, Jewish community centres, and/or other community organizations to offer collaboration on educational programs.
Maintain continuous follow-up with partner organizations vis-a-vis phone and emails calls before and after community based activities.
Keep a running list of organizations to be approached and their responses.
Recruit tzevet (counselors) with an emphasis on mentoring youth hadracha (leadership) process including individual evaluations
Plan and implement alumni reunions, family camp, Israeli family camp and other community outreach events in collaboration with Board committees and year round staff.
Year Round programs:
In residence at year round programming events to help facilitate their implementation.
Lead tzevet (youth staff) in the planning and implementation of year-round programming for campers; including 3 weekend teen seminars and 4-6 younger child events.
Summer Camp Operations and Management:
Participate in camp operations ensuring that all camp policies are being implemented in accordance with Ontario Regulations, the Addington Highlands Department of Health and the Ontario Camp Association (OCA) regulations.
Ensure that all camp programs are in-line with camp policies and values and prioritize the needs of campers.
Provide leadership and support to staff and campers in light of creating a youth led Jewish community that is inclusive and dedicated to social justice.
In conjunction with the Director and Rosh (youth Camp Director) schedule training for staff training week before summer campers arrive.
Participate in OCA and Jewish camping conferences to keep abreast of best practices and implement these practices at Camp Gesher.
Track staff certifications and ensure they are kept up to date.
Record cash receipts and make bank deposits.
Create expense reports, petty cash reports, and reimbursement reports.
Process incoming payments and enter them into camp management software (Camp Brain).
Maintain vendor contact and account files.
Provide clerical and administrative support to the Director, Chair(s) of the Board and Board as requested.
Maintain the Camp website and an online event calendar, create and execute in-house communications for staff and community (WIX or Constant Contact).
Handle social media outreach.
Maintain contact lists for all stakeholders including but not limited to current campers, staff, alumni, parents, donors, vendors, consultants, service providers and community organizations.
Provide logistical planning and support for a range of year-round activities .
Ensure that all registration forms and payment collection happen in a timely manner.
Act as first point of contact for all parent inquiries post-registration.
Collect and file human resource forms from camp staff.
Provide administrative support related to opening the summer facility in the spring, and the closing of the summer facility in the fall.
Provide administrative support for the Ontario Camp Association accreditation process.
Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to connect with multiple stakeholders including parents, campers, camp staff, the Board of Directors, and the larger Jewish community.
Prior success in youth engagement/education is required.
Significant experience in a summer camp environment is strongly preferred but not required.
Experience with social media, website maintenance, marketing tools, database skills.
Experience with computer programs including: Word, Excel, Google Drive – GSuite, Doodle, Constant Contact, etc.
Highly organized and efficient; the ability to effectively multi-task; the ability to work independently and proactively, as well as the capacity for effective collaboration and support of others, are required.
Able to work flexible hours, including weeknights and weekends.
A positive “growth mindset” outlook and high level of enthusiasm for empowering Jewish youth to build a better world.
Familiarity with basic principles of financial reporting and bookkeeping is preferred, but not required.

RequirementsEducation and Experience:
College or University degree required.
Prior administrative and educational experience preferred.
Driver’s License and clean driving record.
The successful candidate is required to undergo a criminal background check for vulnerable persons.
