Description
The Assistant Director serves as a member of the management team in creating the vision for and the development and implementation of programs that shape and define the Camp Chi experience for children ages 9-17.
The Assistant Director plays a role in camper and staff recruitment, program development and operational and administrative responsibilities. The Assistant Director plays a key role in fostering and maintaining relationships with campers, parents and staff.
Key Areas of Responsibility Include:
Work with the Director and Associate Director on the oversight and management of camp day to day functioning.
Staff recruitment planning and implementation.
Assist in camper recruitment planning and implementation.
Management of 7th grade programs, staff, and campers as well as the two-week mini session programs.
Program development and management.
Program and implementation of year-round engagement and communications with staff.
Planning and implementation of engagement activities with campers and families.
Supervision of Village Leaders.
Direct management and coordination of all outside summer visiting groups.
Building Partnerships (Internal & External):
Foster and build relationships with colleagues across the agency; determine mutually beneficial ways for various departments to work and program together.
Work with partner agencies such as American Camping Association, Foundation for Jewish Camping, JCC Association, Jewish Federation, JCRC, JCFS, Keshet, local synagogues and schools to better serve our customers and the community.
Participate in agency-wide programs and events.
Work with JCC Social Service team during the year to continually improve services to our families.
To sustain and build the JCC future, proactively engaging in agency FRD initiatives, modeling for staff the importance of engagement.
Building Customer Relationships:
Provide quality and responsive communication to prospective, new, and returning camper families to ensure the highest level of customer service.
Continuously identify new opportunities for program engagement, both in person and, in partnership with Marking & Communications, through various media outlets.
Proactively identify and respond to challenges or questions related to a camper’s experience.
Help create an environment where children and parents feel they are safe physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Essential Job Duties/Physical Requirements:
Lift/move children up to 40 lbs.
Demonstrate physical stamina and agility required to be mobile for long periods throughout the day.
Stand for long periods of time and be able to run and actively engage physically with children.
React with physical and mental alertness in emergency situations.
Use hands for grasping equipment and play material.
Supervise children by sight and sound.
Must be able to rotate head side to side to scan the environment.
Ability to demonstrate, motivate and communicate with children and adults.
Ability to speak clearly and articulately with a loud tone of voice.
Days/Hours:
September through May: Elaine Frank Apachi, Lake Zurich
Monday to Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, plus evenings and weekends as needed
June through August: Camp Chi (Lake Delton, WI)

65k to 75kRequirements
Education Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Business, Education, Social Work or related field; Master’s degree preferred. Experience: 3+ years progressive leadership experience in Resident Camp or related field Previous experience interviewing, hiring and supervising staff. Previous experience working as a member of a management team. Other Requirements: Ability to demonstrate and lead with JCC Chicago’s Four Core Values: Self-Leadership and Accountability, Creativity and Innovation, Teamwork and Collaboration, and Customer Service. Demonstrated knowledge of Jewish culture and values. Conflict management, listening and decision making skills. Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, Excel and databases with the ability to learn other technology as needed; proficiency with CampMinder preferred. Experience utilizing Social Media on behalf of an organization. Strong oral and written communication skills; must have highly developed public speaking/presentation skills.How to Apply
