Assistant Director Role Overview:
Camp Ramah in Wisconsin is seeking an energetic, organized, creative and passionate leader to serve as the camp’s next Assistant Director. As Camp Ramah plans for its 76th summer and beyond, the Assistant Director will play a crucial role in recruiting and retaining the next generations of campers and staff; developing that special “Ramah relationship” with camper families, engaging a diverse group of staff with diverse professional experience, and many other sets of stakeholders; owning and administering the design and implementation of the annual summer experience for over 800 individuals; and participating in the ongoing development of the strategic vision for Ramah Wisconsin to successfully realize its mission of strengthening Jewish identity in children, adolescents, and emerging adults.

This role is suited for someone interested in building on existing high-level professional experience in the areas of recruitment and administration. The right candidate melds that experience, from outside the Jewish non-profit sector or within it, with a passion for Ramah’s religious and educational mission and an intrinsic ability to develop meaningful relationships with everyone around them.

What You’ll Do:
I. Camper Recruitment
• Plan and coordinate the annual camper recruitment and camper retention process.
• Achieve monthly recruitment goals through one-on-one conversations, in person and virtually, as well as organized events and information sessions across the Midwest region.
• Provide quality and responsive communication to prospective, new, and returning camper families to ensure the highest level of customer service.
• Gain proficiency in Salesforce, CampMinder, and other relevant Camp Ramah in Wisconsin database systems.

II. Summer Staff
• Plan and coordinate the annual summer staff recruitment and staff retention process.
• Manage all administrative aspects of the hiring process of more than 250 staff members, including the application process, job postings, interviews and contract materials for hired personnel.
• Plan pre-summer staff orientation activities, including ongoing year-round activities, new staff orientation, and two weeks of in-person on-site staff preparation.
• Lead and supervise the Summer Leadership Team.
• Work with the Executive Director and Director of Camper Care and Inclusion on the oversight and management of camp day-to-day functioning.

III. Summer Programming
• Shape the religious, recreational, and educational experience for campers and staff.
• Evaluate the quality of camp programming and develop plans to improve and enhance programming from summer to summer.
• Plan new camp programs, including age group specific programs, all camp programs and specialty programs, including out of camp trips.
• Work closely with Director of Camper Care and Inclusion to ensure an inclusive experience for all members of the Camp Ramah in Wisconsin community.
• Oversee day-to-day summer camp experience and coordination, ensuring health, safety, fun, and exciting summer for campers and staff.

IV. Ongoing Responsibilities
• Work in partnership with the Executive Director and professional staff to implement Camp Ramah in Wisconsin’s strategic vision and core values.
• Sustain and contribute to dynamic relationship with partnering organizations including National Ramah Commission, Foundation for Jewish Camp, and Jewish Agency for Israel.
• Supervise implementation of grants relevant to portfolio, in addition to collaboration with members of the team on grant writing and reporting.

What You’ll Need: • Proven professional track record in some combination of recruitment and retention (sales), complex program administration, and supervision of multi-tiered teams of diverse skills and levels of experience • Ability to build trusting and lasting relationships with campers, camper parents, staff, professional leadership, and other partners • Deep personal commitment to the educational and religious mission of Camp Ramah in Wisconsin • Years-long connection to an overnight Jewish camp as a camper and staff member • B.A. and 3+ years of professional experience in related field Ideal candidates will possess some combination of the following skills: • Passion for strengthening Jewish identity • Outstanding organizational and executive functioning skills • High energy level and be extremely goal-oriented • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and with a team • Approach opportunities and challenges with confidence, determination, and resilience • Must be able to work in a demanding environment and able to quickly adjust to changing conditions Job requirements: • Regular year-round travel as well as work on nights and weekends • Summer residency of approximately 12 weeks at Ramah’s campus in Conover, WI • Living a lifestyle consistent with that of an educational leader of the Conservative Movement
