THE ROLE
The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Greene Family Camp (GFC) seeks a dynamic and passionate Assistant Director of Retreat Services and Site Operations to support all year-round rental events, making GFC a center of Jewish Life and additional revenue throughout the year. The Assistant Director supports ongoing prospecting, cultivation, and sales process for GFC’s rental business, with a significant focus on growth, expansion, and end-user experience. The Assistant Director helps create a vibrant summer camp and year-round youth and family engagement experience. The Assistant Director plays a vital role in the success of the URJ’s mission to create communities of belonging that build confidence and character of young people from a wide range of backgrounds (Campers of Color, LGBTQ+ campers, campers with disabilities, campers from interfaith backgrounds and other underrepresented identities) , so they are inspired as leaders to make the world a better place and pursue lifelong engagement in Jewish life.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Assistant Director of Retreat Services and Site Operations reports to Executive Chef/Rental Business Manager and is responsible for the following:

SALES AND EVENT PLANNING

In partnership with Rental Business Manager, implement robust sales strategy to drive growth for GFC’s rental business. Help to identify and cultivate potential rental groups by effectively and efficiently developing proposals, giving site/facility tours, and responding to questions and inquiries.

Staff Lead and Host for rental clients and their program participants. Communicate with groups before and after their events. Manage pre-event and rental processes, including but not limited to

Contracts and payments.

Hiring and supervising rental group event staff that welcomes guests, orients guests to site facilities and protocols, and manages check-in/out.

Housing assignments, space allocation, schedules, and programming

Food services and dietary needs

A/V and equipment and other supplies.

Maintain contact and communication with rental groups throughout summer season.

Collect information and group needs prior to events and ensure Facilities Team has necessary information to prepare the site prior to each rental. Maintain open and ongoing line of communication with facilities and year-round team and staff.

As needed: arrive onsite prior to group arrival, making sure that all spaces are prepared and ready for groups’ arrival.

As needed: inspect and close camp upon conclusion of event(s), including locking all offices, storing equipment, turning off lights, etc. Note any damage and share with Facility Manager.

YEAR-ROUND & SUMMER SUPPORT

Spend a significant portion of the summer season on-site as a member of the summer Leadership Team, ensuring the success of Greene Family Camp’s summer operations. Specific role to be determined.

Serve as a member of the URJ Camping System’s camping cohort and its national staffing team. Whenever possible, provide support and assistance to national efforts and initiatives of the URJ Camping System and the URJ in general, and play an active, visible role on the regional and national scene. This will include opportunities for professional development and training.

Demonstrate and commit to staying up to date and executing best practices with respect to Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion in the camp community and URJ as a whole.

Support URJ org-wide priorities.

Compensation

$50K - $55K

Strong presentation skills which include a high level of comfort, confidence, and enthusiasm in front of groups of children and guardians. Effectively and professionally represent camp, rental facility, and the URJ via telephone, e-mail and face-to-face communication and able share the organizational vision. REDI Experience (Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion). Demonstrated experience prioritizing and executing on URJ Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (i.e., ableism, LGBTQ+ Inclusion, antiracism, etc.) priorities. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Reside at camp for weekend and evenings as needed to support rental business. Reside at camp for a significant portion of summer season. Occasional in-person team meetings as required. Background in hospitality industry or equivalent. Camping or facilities work a plus.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite or similar applications.   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS   Ability to lift 50 lbs. Able to physically maintain a demanding schedule, including responding to after-hours needs from guests. Able to do physical labor. (Moving beds and tables, sweeping, serving food, etc.)  Willing to help in areas of maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen, and program when needed.
