Camp Shalom is a member of the Canadian Young Judaea family of camps. Our aim is to strengthen its young members’ Jewish identity with an emphasis on the centrality of Israel. Since 1948 Camp Shalom has been making summer great for our kids.
Camp Shalom is accepting applications for the position of Camp Director.
Camp Shalom’s year around office is in Toronto and the camp is located in Gravenhurst, Ontario. The Camp Director will oversee the daily operations of the site and programs to ensure the health and safety of campers and staff. Customer service, relationship building, programming and administration will be a major focus of this position.
Requirements• Responsible for directing Camp Shalom’s program, facility and staff. • Ensure a safe, fun camp program that reflects the values and vision of Camp Shalom. • Manage summer registration and support administration, ensuring it is organized, assessed and prepared for opening and closing days. • Responsible for the hiring, training, leading and evaluating of a strong staff team. • Responsible for providing all program heads with guidance and support. • Responsible for the development and implementation of the camp-wide policies and emergency procedures. • To manage all camper and parent issues in a clear, consistent and timely manner. • To ensure that every individual who attends Camp Shalom is treated with respect, understanding and compassion. • The Camp Director will be a positive role model for fellow staff and campers in every aspect of camp life, being conscious of health, dress, speech, etiquette and relation with others. • To submit a regular and timely reports to the camp board. • To assist in all other camp operations as requested by the camp board. • Represents Camp Shalom in a professional manner. Skills and Qualifications: • Strong affiliation with Israel and experience with Israel related programming. • Strong affiliation with Jewish heritage and heritage programming. • Post-secondary education in recreation, education or other related field. • Senior leadership experience in a residential camp setting. • Experience with a variety of recreation activities and childrens’ programming. • Accounting and budgeting skills are an asset. • Ability to facilitate education and team building programs for youth and adults. • Ability to effectively support and supervise a seasonal staff of 120. • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills. • Excellent team player and able to work with senior leadership team. • Strong communication, customer service and public relation skills. • Computer literate and able to function within Microsoft Office. • First Aid/CPR. • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check
