About the Position:
The Director of Cedar Lake Camp is the senior professional responsible for the visioning, direction, and day-to-day management of Cedar Lake Camp. Cedar Lake Camp serves on average 500-600 7th-9th grade campers with an infrastructure of 200+ seasonal staff members. Cedar Lake Camp hosts a number of visiting groups throughout the summer and its programmatic offerings extend to the 200 campers of NJY Teen Camp (10th-11th grade) and 100 campers of Round Lake Camp (NJY’s inclusion program for children with high functioning special learning needs). The Director is responsible for the year-round camper recruitment, staff hiring, and program design of camp. In collaboration with other agency-wide personnel, the Director of Cedar Lake Camp oversees and informs the budgeting, marketing, purchasing, partnership development, operational planning, and facility management needs of the camp. During the summer, the Director of Cedar Lake Camp lives on-site in Milford, PA and manages the camp’s entire infrastructure. Everything from the smooth running of all systems, the health and safety of all individuals, the culture and dynamics of camp, and the handling of all crises falls under the responsibility of the director. This position will report to both the CEO and COO of NJY Camps and will also involve year-round personnel supervision.


Recruit and Retain Campers
• Steward all inquiries and leads through parent communications, home visits, and camp tours
• Build a framework of innovative recruitment tactics to reach new audiences and deepen existing market penetration
• Ongoing engagement and outreach to existing and previous camp families
• Manage scholarship allocations and other grant and discount programs
• Serve as the face and voice for Cedar Lake Camp at camper recruitment and other agency events

Build a Summer Team of Rockstars
• Oversee the hiring, onboarding, and training efforts of all seasonal camp staff
• Build a leadership team through which you will delegate summer supervisory responsibilities
• Collaboratively build and institute policies, procedures, and practices to define camp’s culture
• Manage the planning and delivery of NJY Camps’ pre camp certification courses

Create a Transformational Summer Program
• Define camp’s big picture programmatic vision and communicate it to all area heads
• Oversee camp’s elective system and program schedule
• Manage the camp’s program budget and ordering of all supplies and equipment
• Infuse Jewish and Israel content into all elements of the camp experience
• Coordinate an extensive out of camp trips schedule
• Foster an environment of creativity and ingenuity

Be a Master Organizer
• Oversee a complex framework of operational systems including medical provision, food service, facility maintenance, and office administration
• Manage all inbound and outbound camp communications procedures
• Ensure the proper opening and closing of camp’s physical property
• Maintain a physical presence in and around all areas of camp

Model Expert Leadership
• Supervise certain year-round personnel
• Collaborate with other organizational leaders to inform the strategic direction of NJY Camps
• Manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders including partners, vendors, camp families, staff, and alumni
• Apply sound crisis management strategies on an ongoing basis
• Be open to being managed up
• Serve as a role model for both campers and staff

Salary and Benefits:
• Salary range of $95-110K based on a full-time 40-hour work week during the off season and living on site at camp during the summer

Required Experience: • Minimum of five years of professional camp experience with at least two years in a camp director position • A proven track record of successfully managing hundreds of relationships • Expertise in all areas of camp management including recruitment, marketing, staffing, budgeting, purchasing, program development, and facility management • Experience working independently, with a great deal of autonomy, and in a flexible work environment • Previous year-round supervisory experience is a plus
