Children and Camp Haverim Assistant Director is responsible for the organization, leadership, direction, management of programs and services which meet the needs of children and their families. The main responsibility for the Children, Teen and Camp Haverim Assistant Director is the after school program using the guidelines of the State of California. Camp responsibility includes implementing a safe, creative and Jewish environment that follows the American Camping Association Standards. Reports directly to the Children, Teen and Camp Haverim Director of the JCC.

Yearly Programming:
• Responsible for the after school enrichment program
• Supervise and organize winter, spring and fall break camps
• Special events, including school’s out days, teen events and Saturday night programs
• Implementing a safe and creative Jewish environment throughout the year
• Supervise part time staff for the after school program ensuring the staff meets the standards, creating a friendly and warm environment for both the children and families
• Communicate with potential families and community for recruitment for Children’s Programs

After School Program – Club J Responsibilities:
• Interviewing, recommending, hiring, training and evaluating after-school counselors
• Planning, assigning and directing work and schedules
• Evaluating performance of children’s staff
• Addressing complaints and resolving problems in the after school program
• All of these are done under the guide lines of the State of California
• Creating innovative middle school programming throughout the school year
• Creating and organizing daily pick up lists, emergency contact forms and schedules
• Develop and implement recruitment and outreach strategies to the community
• Works closely with the marketing team in creating brochures, banners and flyers for the after school program
• Work with parents & families to meet their individual needs

Camp Haverim Responsibilities:
• Implementing a safe and creative Jewish environment
• Be familiar with the standards of the American Camping Association
• Create and schedule all summer field trips and special events
• Supervise a camper unit
• Develop weekly activity calendars
• Assist in the registration process
• Understand and help maintain the camp database and software system
• Participate in recruitment and outreach for all JCC programs (may consist of some weekend hours)

Expectations for Professional Relationships:
• Work directly with the Children’s Department Committee (when developed) or any other committee assigned
• Create and maintain relationships with past and present families
• Develop working relationship in sharing materials with other JCC professionals in the field by using the resources available by JCC Association

• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience with budget
• Experience with recruitment
• Analyze and use statistical information
• Ability to use technology and to explore new technology
• Marketing ideas and thoughts brought to the marketing team
• Continue the growth of the programs in the Children’s Department
• Able to problem solve in a quick and efficient manner
• Update and maintain Children’s Department events on the JCC calendar
• Assist in organizing, coordinating and conducting staff meetings and planning in-service trainings
• Develop programs with a Jewish component

The Children and Camp Haverim Assistant Director must be friendly, warm, caring, creative and supportive of the goals and mission of the Merage Jewish Community Center.
