Culinary Department HeadAt Camp Airy
Description
Camp Airy Culinary Department Head
Camp Airy is a resident (sleep-away) camp in Thurmont, MD for boys ages 7-17. Airy offers a huge range of activities for campers, including sports, arts, outdoors, music, culinary arts, and more. The Culinary Department Head (CDH) is responsible for overseeing the culinary activity area at camp. This includes leading culinary sessions of varying difficulties depending on the age and skill of the present campers, and coordinating schedules and assigning tasks for other culinary department staff. The CDH reports to the Department Head Coordinator and the Camp Director.
In more detail, the CDH at Airy will be responsible for:
• Creating the menu/lesson plans for each week.
• Ordering ingredients in a timely manner, and within allotted budget
• Prepping kitchens for cooking projects
• Creating schedules for culinary staff
• Leading or overseeing others leading culinary sessions with the campers
Experience in the kitchen, and culinary knowledge is important for the job, but you need not be an expert. The job requires you to choose fun recipes to teach and make with campers, and be able to carry them out in a group cooking setting. The management of your staff, food ordering, and prep, is an equally important piece.
The job requires that you live on-site, at our beautiful camp for the duration of the camp season, which runs June 15-August 14. Room and board are provided, and weekly time off is given.
