Camp Tel Noar is a member of Eli and Bessie Cohen family of camps and boasts a 75-year history of giving children ages 7 to 16 camp experiences to last a lifetime. Recruiting is underway to hire a director who is present, bares charisma, and leads with robust excitement for value of the Jewish overnight camp experience. Tel Noar’s Director delivers overall management, leadership, and vision to take the camp to a new level of excellence in Jewish camping.
Set in Southern New Hampshire, about one hour from Boston, Camp Tel Noar is as a pluralistic, Jewish overnight camp. Tel Noar brings together boys and girls ages 7 to 16 each summer in a joyful environment, nurturing campers, promoting independence and self-confidence, fostering life-long friendships, building a community, and strengthening campers’ Jewish identities.
Under the direction of the Eli and Bessie Cohen Camps President, the Director is the leader and public face of Camp Tel Noar. The Director manages all functional areas at camp: camper recruitment and retention, programs and activity schedules, staff hiring, evaluation and supervision, food service, facility and physical plant, fiscal and risk management, general welfare and security, alumni and community engagement, compliance with ACA, state and federal regulations for operating camp, and a broad spectrum of communications.
As the leader of Camp Tel Noar, the Director is expected to model the goals, objectives, and mission of the Cohen Camps; and represent the camp to the wide variety of stakeholders including families, alumni, and donors. In addition, the Director partners with Cohen Camps Director of Development and Board of Directors to expand spheres of giving and philanthropy.
The Director spends summers (June- late August) living at the camp and for the remainder of the year works out of the Cohen Camps’ offices in Wellesley, MA collaborating with the Directors from the other Cohen Camps (Pembroke and Tevya) and the year-round support staff to prepare for the upcoming summer.
Compensation
$75,000-$125,00Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in education, human services, Jewish education, or non-profit management desired. Master’s degree preferred.• Five years plus leadership and supervisory role(s) in a camp setting managing young staff and working with children and adolescents is required. Previous leadership experience in a Jewish overnight camp is highly desirable.
• Current experiences with children ages 7 to 16, preferably in an informal education setting
• A passion and professional commitment for Jewish overnight camping and its impact on identity and the community.
• Proven development/fundraising experiences and engagement with alumni and camp community, resulting in a sphere of giving for Tel Noar
• Demonstrated communication, executive organizational skills, networking, and problem-solving skills.
• Travel, and evening and weekend work is required during peak the camper and staff recruiting season, and includes international travel to Israel and other international staff job fairs
• Competent computer skills, including Word, Excel, and social media applications.
• Experience as a professional in the Jewish community through youth groups, such as BBYO, USY, Young Judaea, NFTY, or through work in local synagogue, or campus Hillel a plus.
