Camp Tel Yehudah, in Barryville, New York, inspires Jewish and Zionist youth from around the world to experience and embrace the diversity of the Jewish people in a joyful and diverse community while training them to become leaders who effect positive change for the Jewish people, Israel and the world. Camp Tel Yehudah, preparing for its 75th summer, is the national teen camp of Young Judaea.
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Camp Tel Yehudah seeks a creative, dynamic fundraising professional with strong organizational and development skills to serve as its Director of Development. The Director of Development is responsible for creating and implementing the development strategy including the annual campaign, scholarship funds, capital and legacy campaigns, major gift fundraising, events and mail solicitations. A near-term priority will be for the Director of Development to design, launch and implement a multi-year capital campaign. The Director of Development will be a member of the Camp Tel Yehudah senior management team and will also be a member of Young Judaea’s Development Team. The Director of Development is responsible for achieving revenue goals jointly established by the Director and the Board of Directors. The Director of Development is supervised by the Director of Camp Tel Yehudah.
Design and implement a robust multi-year, multi-million dollar capital campaign to transform Tel Yehudah’s facility.
Responsible for the solicitation of gifts for the annual campaigns, scholarship campaigns, legacy campaign, major gift efforts, foundation and organizational
givingResponsible for prospect management, including identification and cultivation of new potential major gift donors; maintain donor opportunities lists.
In conjunction with the Director and appropriate program staff, prepare grant proposals for individual donors, philanthropic foundations, Jewish federations and other funding bodies; reporting to funders on specific projects.
Responsible for overseeing all mail and internet-based solicitations, including the preparation and production of materials.
Responsible for overseeing the process for acknowledging and entering all gift data, and the maintenance of donor records in collaboration with accounting and data managers.
Plan and organize development-related special events throughout the year.
Coordinate development campaigns, prospect management and messaging with Young Judaea’s Development Team. Actively collaborate with Young Judaea’s Director of Development and development team.
Work closely with board members to engage them in fundraising efforts, utilize relationships, and develop leadership gifts.
Staff the Board’s Development Committee and subcommittees of Tel Yehudah’s Board of Directors.
Serve as a member of the senior management team, active in major decision-making regarding areas such as program budget, organizational structure, communications – marketing, policy, strategy, etc.
Serve as an enthusiastic and well-informed spokesperson for the organization to the wider community
Exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Energetic, flexible, able to manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines at the same time
Superior ability to develop an overall development strategy and individual campaign strategies
Superior ability to identify, develop and cultivate donor and foundation relationships
Strong knowledge of donor database systems, communication and on-line giving technologies
Ability to work effectively as part of the Tel Yehudah senior management team and the Young Judaea development team
Ability to work closely with the Tel Yehudah Board and individual Board members
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum 5 years professional experience in development
Experience in capital campaign development and implementation
Deep knowledge of Jewish philanthropic community
Highly successful performance in working as part of a senior management team
Proven record of successfully developing, implementing and meeting targets in fundraising campaigns
Proven record in developing long term donor relationships
Experience in supervising consultants and staff
College degree required, relevant graduate degree preferred
