JCC Chicago is seeking a year-round Camp Director to play key roles in the agency’s trajectory of growth and accomplishment in the Evanston area.

The Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing the Day Camp which serves a robust religious Jewish community. The director is responsible for programming and community building that will provide campers and families with unlimited opportunities in a safe and nurturing environment. The Day Camp Director serves as a leader within the Agency by developing strong relationships with colleagues, community members and lay leaders.

Key areas of responsibility:

Leadership & Strategy

Partner with colleagues in a variety of roles to create and implement a forward-thinking vision for year-round JCC engagement with families.
Champion the spirit and mission of JCC Chicago, verbally, in writing, and through demonstrated action.
Maintain and grow JCC’s reputation as a leader in the day camping industry.
Continue to work with Foundation for Jewish Camp and JCAMP 180 at large to further our strategic plans.
Operate as part of a larger JCC team that shares one agency vision and mission.
Collaborate with instrumental and key players such as rabbis, school principals and families in the local community.

Building of Program / Business

Develop and implement a year-round communication and stewardship plan for camp families.
Work with the local JCC Early Childhood Director to form relationships with the families and steward them from the EC camp program to children’s camp program.
Partner with Community Engagement Department to oversee sports (gymnastics), athletics (partnership with Chai Athletics), and afterschool programming (i.e., Piano) and look for areas of expansion.
Maintain an inclusive camp environment, for campers and staff alike, rooted in Jewish tradition and values.
Continue to align the camp with growth in markets such as tweens and children with special needs.
Proactively research and assess trends, community needs, and opportunities for business growth and program expansion.

Operations:

Work with Finance Manager and Leadership to develop and manage a budget reflective of the agency targets.
Ensure compliance with all licensing requirements and make certain that all program environments are safe, secure, and clean.
Responsible for the American Camping Association annual accreditation and memberships along with the 3- 5 year mandated reaccreditation in Rogers Park.

Building of Team:

Create, manage and build a team with site directors who are full time in the summer and part time during the year.
Build, develop and manage a team that can meet the goals and that fits well with the culture that JCC aspires to achieve.
Screen and interview applicants including face to face, Zoom and phone interviews.
Create and implement plan for year-round connection and communication with existing staff.

Compensation

60k or 70k

Requirements

Education Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Recreation, Business, or related field.
Master’s Degree highly preferred.

Experience:

3+ years previous supervisory experience in a camping environment (day camping experience preferred).
Demonstrated success building new and expanding upon existing program areas that led to customer engagement and meeting of business goals.
Previous experience developing and managing budgets.
Previous experience working as a member of a management team.

Highly developed skills in business acumen, verbal and written communications, conflict management, listening and decision making.
Demonstrated knowledge of Jewish culture and values.
