Multi-Media Department HeadAt Camp Airy
Description
Multi-Media Department Head
Camp Airy is a sleep-away camp, in Thurmont, MD, for boys ages 7-17. Over 7 weeks, we host hundreds of young men who participate in a wide variety of activities, like sports, arts, music, wilderness training, swimming, multi-media, and more. Campers at Airy learn new skills, grow as individuals, challenge themselves, and make friends that last a lifetime. Staff at Airy get the opportunity to make a lasting and significant positive impact on our campers. Camp staff are role models and rockstars in the eyes of our kids.
The Multi-Media Department Head (MM DH) plays a key role in ensuring fun, safety, and learning, in their activity area. Campers who participate in multi-media have a diverse range of knowledge. Younger campers may come to the department knowing nothing about filming, composition, editing, sound, etc, and other campers may be very experienced, having participated in multi-media at camp for years, and possibly even involved in related activities at home. Regardless of their skill level, our hope is that the campers leave their MM experience with new knowledge and a greater passion for this art.
Depending on their skill, and the amount of time they choose to spend in MM, campers complete projects ranging from simple interviews with people around camp to fun commercials for their favorite activities and even fully original shorts. Multi-Media at camp is the perfect place for kids to be creative, and make their own ideas come to life.
The Multi-Media DH will mainly be responsible for:
• Supervising campers during activity periods
• Helping campers determine project goals and outlines
• Teaching or assisting in planning, filming, and editing of projects
• Compiling projects for end of camp “film festival”
• Supervising and working with team of MM counselors (2-4 people)
• Giving written evaluations to MM counselors at halfway point and end of summer
• Working with and coordinating with camp directors, and other activity’s department heads.
• Assisting with other general camp activities as needed
The MM Department Head should have experience working with:
• DSLR cameras and other assorted videocameras.
• Various sound equipment (boom mics, shotgun mics, etc.)
• Adobe creative suite (mostly Premiere, some Photoshop)
• iMovie
The MM Department Head lives on site, at our beautiful camp, for the duration of the position (June 15-August 14). Room and board are provided. Weekly time off is provided.
Working at camp is a challenging, but incredibly rewarding experience. We have staff from all over America, the UK, Europe, Israel, and more. Many counselors describe their experience working at camp as “life-changing” and “unforgettable”. We hope that you consider joining us at camp this summer!
