The Tween Department Coordinator will report to the Director of Tween & Camping Services, and is responsible for managing a group of children ages 10 thru 14 years/5th-8th grade. The Tween Department Coordinator’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintaining positive relationships with tween participants and ensuring their needs are met, supervising and guiding tweens while in the tween center or other tween programs, fully developing and facilitating tween monthly program calendars, activities/lesson plans supply lists and parent communication. In addition, the Tween Department Coordinator will assist with planning, preparing and facilitating Tween events and promotional events.

• Support and maintain programs that engage tweens socially, culturally, and intellectually
• Plan and implement the day-to-day activities in accordance with established standards and goals for:
• Tween Lounge activities along with lesson plans and monthly supply list
• Monthly Parent Night Out activities and supply list
• All Intersession/Holiday camp days/weeks (See below under schedule for day/weeks)
• Attend and facilitate all tween programs as well as other agency events as directed
• Create and maintain a culture of inclusion and respect in the Tween Lounge
• Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all tweens in any area or programs
• Maintain a physical environment (indoors and outdoors) which is safe, attractive, and clean
• Effectively manage approximately 10-30 tweens safely in a variety of activities
• Facilitate activities such as field trips, swimming, sports, games, arts & crafts, STEAM skits, special events and other activities.
• Know and develop a positive relationship with each tween
• Actively engage and interact with the tweens throughout all parts of the day
• Communicate with families when necessary
• Manage and enforce discipline policies and provide effective guidance and intervention as well as document and communicate accordingly to Tween Director
• Manage record keeping and reporting, as it relates to the tween programs
• Act as next level up when tween participant issues arise and seek assistance from the Tween Director as needed
• Ensure all youth department, JCC, DHS and ACA compliance standards and best practices are implemented and followed
• Use social media and other means to market the tween programs and encourage regular participation in the tween programs
• Perform any other program or agency-related duties as assigned


SCHEDULE: • Monday-Friday 3:15pm to 6:15pm – Tween Lounge • 2 hours of admin time a week • (1) Saturday every other month 5:00pm to 10:30pm – Parent’s Night Out • Ruach camp during school closure/holidays 8:45am to 3:30/6:00pm • 1 week in September/October (during fall break/Jewish Holidays) • 2 days in November (Veterans’ Day) • 2 weeks in December (Winter break) • 1 day in January (MLK Day) • 1 day in February (Presidents’ Day) • 2 weeks in March (spring breaks for different school districts) • 1 day in April (Good Friday) EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE/ SPECIALIZED TRAINING: • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in social services, education, human development or related field • Experience working with a non-profit organization, preferably a youth development organization • Excellent planning and organizational skills • Familiarity with the principles of youth development • Positive, upbeat, self-motivated and creative • Ability to use Microsoft Office products, email and various social media outlets • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to multi-task and be flexible • Ability to work all local school district days and holiday/intersession dates • Current First Aid and CPR certification (employee’s responsibility to obtain) • Pass TB test (to be paid by JCC) • Pass fingerprint clearance (to be paid by JCC) • Excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license. REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES / CHARACTERISTICS: • Attend required department meetings and participate and/or lead necessary training • Be a positive role model while maintaining your authority, being fun, silly and able to lose a game when needed • Serve as a role model by displaying exemplary behavior at all time • Integrate Jewish values & VOSJCC mission into daily activities to foster an environment of growth, respect, and caring • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment; for youth at all times • Team player that remains positive and supportive • Help cultivate friendships between tweens and establish a sense of belonging and community • Motivation to contribute positively to VOSJCC community at-large • Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changes and needs • Energetic, enthusiastic, proactive, requiring little direction, takes responsibility • Demonstrated reasoning skills and ability to make quick and sound judgment calls as well as the ability to resolve conflict with solution oriented approach • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor during an emergency while making sounds judgment calls • Possess integrity, high ethical standards and ability to maintain poise throughout times of high stress • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
