Tuesday Choose Day

Following a plenary session, our Tuesday programming offers the opportunity to dive deep on one topic. Attendees will be able to select from options which will range from on-site bootcamps and trainings to off-site Atlanta experiences packed with insights that you can take back to your camp/organization to site visits to area camps. No matter what you choose – you’ll be in for a treat!  

Note that most activities will end by 3:00 ET; offsite experiences will include a drop off at the Atlanta airport. Visits to local camps will end later in the afternoon. Please see details below for end and airport drop off times where applicable.  

You can select your Tuesday Choose Day option during Leaders Assembly registration. If you registered for Leaders Assembly prior to 9/9/2022, please check your email for Tuesday Choose Day Sign Up.
 

Designing for Inclusion & Community Care at Camp Twin Lakes 

Learn from the history, creative partnership models, and intentional physical design decisions of Camp Twin Lakes. Take a tour of their new campus where, for almost 30 years, they have been delivering fully adaptive, medically supportive, and deeply impactful camp experiences to tens of thousands of children and young adults with serious illnesses, disabilities, and other life challenges. Hear from partners who host on-site about collaboration with complicated situations and discover new ways to think about staffing and physical space decisions. (This option is supported by the Yashar Initiative.) 

*NOTE: The bus will aim to return to the Atlanta airport by approximately 5pm and then return to the conference hotel.

Creating a Recognizable Brand at the World of Coca-Cola  

OPTION FULL – Is there anything more recognizable than Coca-Cola? This immersive opportunity will grant access to the world-renowned Coca-Cola facility to learn about the world of Coke, engage in a 4-D experience, and try flavors of Coke products from around the globe. Along the way, camp professionals will discuss and reflect with peers and leaders in the field of Jewish Camp marketing to elevate key takeaways to enhance their own camp branding. 

*NOTE: This option is within walking distance of our conference hotel. Please be prepared to walk to the World of Coca-Cola and spend 1-2 hours on your feet exploring! This option will conclude by 3pm and participants will be responsible for their transportation to the airport. 

Camp Management & Operations at Camp Barney Medintz & URJ Camp Coleman 

OPTION FULL – Head into the Blue Ridge Mountains to explore camp management and operations, step by step, as you tour two overnight camps with their leadership teams. Hear about new developments and tough choices they’ve made to address today’s evolving challenges and see how Judaism plays a role in on-site facilities management. Come dressed for walking in any weather!  

*NOTE: The bus will aim to return to the Atlanta airport by approximately 6pm, and then return to the conference hotel.

Learning Through Play with MJCCA Day Camps 

We know that our campers and staff learn best through play, so why can’t we? Spend a few hours playing at MJCCA to see the day camp facility, climb the rock wall, and much more! Time for play helps us process learning, fortifies mental health, and is a rejuvenation opportunity for YOU. Gain ideas for how to add Jewish educational content to all the playtime you provide at camp. Come prepared to play!

A Civil Rights Tour of Atlanta with Billy Planer 

Atlanta has a rich history when it comes to key milestones of the Civil Rights Movement. Join Billy Planer, Founder and Director and the staff of Etgar 36 which leads Civil Rights journeys in the American South, as he takes participants on a journey through Atlanta’s biggest Civil Rights landmarks. Participants will get to see both The King Center and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Staff Training Hack-a-thon  

Why wait until close to summer to start building out your staff training plans and goals? Join participants from all over the field of Jewish Camp as we workshop and brainstorm ideal plans for staff training and work in real time to design summer training schedules and content.  

*NOTE: This option takes place at the conference hotel. This option will conclude by 3pm and participants will be responsible for their transportation to the airport. 

Creating Your Staff Culture with Woodward Academy 

What is the secret to creating an ideal staff culture? For 12 consecutive years, Woodward Academy, a private pre-K through 12th grade day school of 2,550 students with a robust summer camp program, has ranked in the top 10 in the large workplace category of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Top Workplaces program, out of 175 of Atlanta’s top companies. Experience a tour of their facility and learn from their leadership team how to create the staff culture your camp needs.

Service Learning with Repair the World 

For many of us, the value of Tikkun Olam (working to Repair the World) sits at the very heart of our Jewish identities and communities. Join the team from Repair the World and put your values into action with an afternoon of Jewish Service Learning. In addition to serving alongside Repair’s longtime Atlanta partners, learn how to bring the best practices of meaningful Jewish service learning back to your camp this summer!

Thinking Big: Introduction to Building Trauma-Sensitive Camps with BaMidbar 

This crash course in trauma-sensitive and trauma-informed frameworks will lead participants to explore how camp can better support the community’s mental health and wellness on an organizational level. This intensive will introduce holistic models to encourage proactive thinking about pervasive challenges and will offer space to begin action-oriented conversations about where institutions can start making positive change to impact their campers, staff, and families.  (This option is supported by the Yedid Nefesh initiative.) 

*NOTE: This option takes place at the conference hotel. This option will conclude by 3pm and participants will be responsible for their transportation to the airport.
