Conflict Resolution

Description

Before I can listen, I need to feel heard. When a challenging situation arises, the first places I go are fear, self-defense, anger, and shut-down. Over the course of time, though, I have acquired some tools which have helped me resolve situations for me and for others, especially young people. Learning to use thoughtful and kind listening, letting each person speak until they have said their full piece, and affirming a shared humanity through humor, honesty, and healing can do wonders in our ability to manage conflict with one another and among the young people in our lives. We will define and practice these tools so that you, too, may add them to your life skills tool belt. -By Chana Rothman
