Camper Care Specialist
Young Judaea Sprout Brooklyn Day Camp is seeking those with social work experience to join our Camper Care & Support team. The team works in tandem and under the supervision of the Camp Social Worker. You will work towards ensuring a successful and positive experience for all campers and staff during the camp season by supporting MESSH (Mental Emotional Social and Spiritual Health) at Sprout Brooklyn. You will also support campers with special needs and help the camp community to be a more inclusive environment.
You’ll provide invaluable guidance to campers and staff, empowering them to make healthy, responsible, and respectful choices. Your role includes helping staff to foster positive social interactions, managing challenging camper behaviors and interpersonal disputes, identifying, and supporting campers with special needs, among other critical topics. You’ll embody Sprout Brooklyn’s core values, building strong relationships with both campers and staff while demonstrating exceptional communication skills.
Flexibility is key in this role, as you’ll navigate various situations with compassion and empathy. This position requires a flexible team player with the ability to transition from one situation to another quickly and intuitively. While the Camper Care team does not have specific programmatic responsibilities, they will be involved in all elements of the camp program and are expected to fully participate in the camp experience.
Responsibilities:
- Regularly check-in with and be available to campers and staff
- Observe behavior of Campers
- Shadow a specific camper or group that may need extra support
- Support a Unit’s group if Unit Head is off-site or out of camp
- Meet regularly with Camp Social Worker for supervision, support, and updates Pre-Camp Conversations with special need camper families
- Participate in supervisor and staff training prior to camp
- Monitor and support the well-being of campers and staff
- Communicate with parents as necessary
- Serve as a positive role model and uphold camp values
- Meet with Camp Social Worker to evaluate summer experience
Camp runs from June 23 – August 15, with some pre-summer work (flexible hours). The camp day runs from 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday. Salary Range: $5,000-$8,000, dependent on role and experience.
Song Leader/Music specialist
Young Judaea Sprout Brooklyn Day Camp, located in Red Hook, is a Hebrew dual-language camp for children entering Pre-K through 5th grade. No previous Hebrew experience is necessary to be part of the Sprout Brooklyn community. Sprout Brooklyn is a place where children from a wide spectrum of backgrounds join together to create a joyful, diverse community built on Jewish values, a connection to Israel and the Hebrew language.
Our Songleader will build their own informal Jewish education curricula based on Jewish values and creating a connection to Israel. They will teach daily 30 minute lessons to campers entering Pre-K through entering 5th grade, lead all of camp in singalong song sessions twice a day, and play an active role in our weekly Shabbat celebration.

General Counselor

We are currently looking for energetic, fun-loving and responsible counselors. Our counselors are the heart of Sprout Brooklyn. They are role models who nurture and care for campers while leading groups and participating in all activities.
Responsibilities:
-Be a positive role model for campers and other staff members
-Supervise 12-15 campers and provide a safe environment for them to have fun and grow
-Work alongside 2-3 co-counselors and share group responsibilities
-Participate with campers in all activities while assisting activity specialists with lesson plans
-Get in the pool with campers and participate in instructional swim

-Run 30-minute lessons daily with groups of 12-14 campers
-Incorporate Jewish values, Hebrew and/or Israel education into activities whenever possible (assistance is provided if you do not have experience in this area)

The Operations Director is a member of the summer Senior Leadership team and manages the crucial behind-the-scenes aspects of our summer camp program including all elements of daily transportation. Responsibilities
– Manage & Oversee Daily Transportation:
– Create & schedule bus routes,
– Field trip transportation
– Liaison to the bus company
– Share updated routes prior to each session
– Provide driver & route feedback as needed
– Update daily travel and attendance in Camp database based on parent communication
– Supervision & Training of Bus Counselors
– Assign staff to bus routes
– Provide daily route & attendance updates
– Coordinate and track bus counselor attendance
– Parent communication
– Provide regular updates to each bus route about timing
– Assist parents with travel change or route feedback
Camp Administration:
– Assist with the organizing of all camper & staff forms and relevant camp paperwork
– Support the camp office as needed with lost & found, special events, supplies and etc.
Senior Leadership Team:
– Serve as a key member of camp leadership team to help guide and direct Camp, including as part of the emergency response team
– Supervise an intern (or team of interns) who will assist you in completing daily and pre summer tasks
– Assist with general camp operation to ensure a smooth programmatic day
– Cover a group or specialty area as needed based on staff attendance
