Avodah Staff

Avodah Staff

Nestled in the foothills of the magnificent Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania, Camp Harlam provides the finest in Jewish Camping. Established in 1958, Camp Harlam has developed a strong tradition of success and excellence based on a highly skilled staff dedicated to the spiritual, physical, social and emotional well-being of each child, while building lifelong relationships between friends. The mission of Camp Harlam is to create a vibrant, fun and caring camp community which enriches and strengthens Reform Jewish identity and values while cultivating lifelong friendships. Although our camp primarily serves campers from a Jewish background, our staff come from a diversity of backgrounds and are leaders and role models in their community. We do not require or expect our staff to have any prior experience or knowledge of Judaism, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our community this summer.

At Camp Harlam, staff have a unique opportunity to work with campers and fellow staff from all over the country and the world. We take a great deal of pride in the quality of our staff and all of us play a vital role in the development of every one of our campers. A great staff member possesses many characteristics and makes immediate decisions in such a way that campers are happy while their health, safety, and welfare are maintained. It is a vital role that allows staff to guide, support, and influence children for years to come. Each staff member serves as role models for our campers. It is our goal to build and strengthen the self-esteem of our campers and provide a profound Jewish experience that will positively impact the rest of their lives.

As an Avodah Staff member, you are a primary caretaker, along with a co-counselor, for a bunk of 2-6 Avodah participants (adults with developmental disabilities), ranging in age from 18-30. You will live in the cabin together with them, and follow the schedule of the day with your assigned participants: actively participating, leading, supervising and engaging them in all aspects of the day. In a typical day, you may take them to their job sites, join with them in the pool for Free Swim, help run the Coffee Cart, create rituals for reflection at the end of the day, meet with the participants to support vocational goals, encourage skill-building in areas of work and socialization, share meals together and much more.

Database Administrator (Part-Time)

Database Administrator (Part-Time)

Camp Havaya is looking for an experienced, motivated, detail-oriented administrative professional to join our year-round team.

WHO WE ARE

Camp Havaya is all about the joy of summer camp with the freedom for kids to be who they truly are. We are a culture-forward organization, committed to doing cutting-edge, values-focused work. In our incredibly diverse and accepting community, all kids—no matter their race, sexual orientation, gender identity, family structure, or Jewish background—are more than welcomed. They’re celebrated! It’s no wonder we’ve been called the “kindest camp in the country” … or that so many campers, staff, and alumni call us “home.”

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU’LL DO

We know that no one person can do everything. And we also know that many people – particularly those from historically marginalized groups – don’t apply for jobs unless they “tick all the boxes.” We’re committed to building a diverse and innovative team; if many (even if not all) of the following describe you, we’d love to be in touch!

You are deeply committed to excellence and know that details make all the difference.
— You will be responsible for ensuring accurate data entry, scrubbing, and updating across various platforms.
— You will perform all back-end development functions, including gift entry, acknowledgement processes, pledge billing, and financial reconciliation.

You are tech savvy, with experience in Raiser’s Edge, MailChimp, and Google Suite – and with the capacity and interest to be a quick study in CampMinder and other software.

You are guided by a commitment to customer service, knowing that the old cliche is true: we never have a second chance to make a first impression.

You roll up your sleeves, jump in head first, and know that your success is deeply tied to the success of the rest of the team. You know it’s all about “we,” not “me.”
— You’re self-motivated and a self-starter, with the capacity to follow-through consistently.
— You will provide additional administrative and financial support as needed.
— Your honesty and integrity are impeccable. You can always be counted on to do the right thing … including owning your mistakes and asking for help.
— You love to learn. You’re committed to a culture of curiosity and transparency, and you’re open to working on your growing edges – and supporting others as they do the same.
— You find the opportunity in every challenge. You’re able to keep your cool, think clearly, and make good decisions – especially when you have lots of balls in the air or things don’t go your way.

You are personally and professionally committed to being part of a sector-leading space focused on belonging, dignity, justice, and joy.

You know how to have fun! You have a great sense of humor, don’t take yourself too seriously, and know just the right moment to break out the snacks.

THE FINE PRINT

Salary is $20,000 – $25,000, commensurate with experience, for 20 hours per week. This position is based in our office outside of Philadelphia, with a hybrid work schedule possible.
