Jewish Song Leader at Overnight Camp in Northeastern, PA

Spend an incredible summer, as a part of a wonderful, growing camp community! Camp Zeke is a Jewish overnight camp in Lakewood, PA that celebrates healthy, active living, joyful Judaism, culinary arts, and organic foods. Camp Zeke is seeking a mission-aligned Jewish Song Leader to join our team from June 17 – August 11, 2024. There is some flexibility with the start date if needed.

Key Responsibilities:
-The Jewish Song Leader is responsible for designing and implementing Camp Zeke’s Jewish program and weaving music into the fabric of camp life. The ideal candidate should play guitar, have prior song-leading experience, be an engaging story teller, and have a magnetic personality to inspire campers and make them excited about joyful Judaism.
-Lead Camp Zeke’s “G-d Squad” (a group of counselors who help with camp’s Jewish programs).
-Facilitate Shabbat programming, including Friday night services, Saturday morning Shabbat options, a Shabbat Torah skit, and Havdalah.
-Partner with specialty staff to integrate Jewish content into daily programming
-Lead and teach American and Hebrew folk songs in camp-wide song sessions after meals, during Jewish programs, in campfire settings, and during various down times. Also lead blessings before and after meals.
-Make announcements in the dining room at meals
-Start the camps day at our flagpole with morning songs and short prayers
-Act as the MC for some evening programs – creating excitement and infusing camp spirit into the activities.
-Finally, the Jewish Song Leader is responsible for taking a leadership role in shaping the culture of camp and building a sense of ruach (spirit) in the community.

Responsibilities
JEWISH
• Promote Shmirat HaGuf – the health and wellness of our souls – as a key concept in camp, in partnership with the Jewish Life Director
• Actively participate and demonstrate respect in ritual moments
• Incorporate core values and summer theme in meaningful and appropriate ways
ARTS
• Support campers in their skills training and artistic growth
• Cheer at showcase
CAMP
• Supervise and coach Resident Advisors; serve as overarching support for camper and staff behavioral and emotional needs
• Assist with the pre-camp screening and placement/bunking of campers prior to arrival on camp
• When permitted, communicate directly with campers’ mental health professionals
• Provide emotional support and behavioral intervention for the camp community, supporting and intervening directly when necessary
• In coordination with the Assistant Camp Director and the Residential Advisors review daily camper and staff logs for next steps
• In collaboration with the Health and Wellness Director, curate activities and programming geared towards mindfulness for campers and staff, including Mindfulness Moment program blocks
• Facilitate training and share best practices with staff and faculty to support MESSH needs
• Communicate camper successes and challenges to parents/guardians
• When permitted, communicate directly with campers’ mental health professionals
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all interactions with campers, parents/guardians, and staff in CampMinder database
• Partner with Resident Advisors on the scheduling of camper therapy appointments
• If 6 Points Creative Arts is accepted, actively participate in Foundation for Jewish Camp’s (FJC) Yedid Nefesh program included but not limited to:
o Attend FJC trainings, workshops, and webinars
o Participate in Community of Practice programming
o Collaborate with Assistant Director on weekly reports submitted throughout the summer about mental health-related situations happening in camp.
• Actively participate and encourage others in camp activities
Leadership Team Responsibilities
• Abide by and enforce safety and security protocols and policies with all participants and staff.
• Attend Spring Leadership Retreat as scheduled
• Attend daily Leadership Team meetings
• Attend routine meetings with Camp Director and Assistant Director as scheduled
• Contribute to the overall positive morale of the camp community.
• Maintain strict confidentiality.
• Other responsibilities as needed
