Camp Poyntelle

Where Great Things Happen!

Camp Poyntelle has been making children’s summer dreams come true since 1947. As a premier Jewish summer camp, we offer a traditional sleepaway experience filled with amazing memories, lasting friendships and nurturing staff. We feel that camp is one of the few places a child can be their own person, without judgment or social pressure. Our intentional community is designed to allow kids to be kids, in a low key, inclusive environment. There are many words & phrases that come to mind: Intentionally Low Key, Kind, Exciting, Values Driven Jewish Life and more! When you combine awesome sports, creative arts, challenging technology and our 70 acre, one-of-a-kind private lake; you get something truly unique… you get Camp Poyntelle!

Meet The Director

Tom Troche

After developing his leadership skills and passion for camp at Surprise Lake, Tom spent the last 25 years in various roles with KenMont and KenWood Camps, where he was the Director for the last 10 years. Tom’s keen focus on child development and specialty programming led to KenMont and KenWood becoming one of the most popular and successful camps in New England, and he’s looking forward to embracing our Poyntelle family.

Needless to say, summer is Tom’s favorite time of the year because it gives him the opportunity to indulge in his favorite activities with our camp community on the sports fields, in art programs, at outdoor adventure and of course on the waterfront. The interactions at these activities while getting to know campers and watching them grow is what he looks forward to most each summer.

“Camp has been the center of my life for over 30 years!” With vast experience in both the not-for-profit and private camp worlds, Tom has worked as a counselor, Athletic Director, Head Counselor, Staff Recruiter, Associate Director, and Director.

While Tom loves getting involved in all camp activities, he has a strong passion for “hoops” and sports in general, as well as taking part in waterfront activities, where you will find him encouraging campers to participate with him!

As prevalent as Tom is in all of our programs, he also takes a great amount of pride in carving out time to keep his door open for campers and families. “I want to partner in parenting with you so your child has the best possible experiences at camp for years to come.”

Tom’s son Jake is a Junior in High School, has been at camp since he was 9 days old, and looks forward to joining the Poyntelle community this summer. His daughter Olivia has been at camp since she was 9 months old and also lives 10 months for two. The entire Troche family has camp on their minds and in their hearts every day of the year.
