JEWISH

CAMP
• Supervise and coach Community Care Assistants and Managers; serve as overarching support for camper and staff behavioral and emotional needs
• Assist with the pre-camp screening and placement/bunking of campers prior to arrival on camp
• When permitted, communicate directly with campers’ mental health professionals
• Provide emotional support and behavioral intervention for the camp community, supporting and intervening directly when necessary
• In coordination with the Assistant Camp Director and the Community Care team review daily camper and staff logs for next steps
• In collaboration with the Health and Wellness Director, curate activities and programming geared towards mindfulness for campers and staff
• Facilitate training and share best practices with staff and faculty to support MESSH needs
• Communicate camper successes and challenges to parents/guardians
• When permitted, communicate directly with campers’ mental health professionals
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all interactions with campers, parents/guardians, and staff in CampMinder database
• Partner with Community Care team on the scheduling of camper therapy appointments
• Actively participate in Foundation for Jewish Camp’s (FJC) Yedid Nefesh program included but not limited to:
• Attend FJC trainings, workshops, and webinars
• Participate in Community of Practice programming
• Collaborate with Assistant Director on weekly reports submitted throughout the summer about mental health-related situations happening in camp.
• Actively participate and encourage others in camp activities

Leadership Team Responsibilities
• Abide by and enforce safety and security protocols and policies with all participants and staff.

Responsibilities:
Prior to Camp Season:
● Play a leadership role in the planning and implementation of staff training and ongoing staff
learning related to mental, emotional, social and spiritual health (MESSH)
● Work with Directors on staff training and developing a plan for ongoing staff learning
● Develop plan to check on Mental Health and Wellness for campers and staff
● Review camper forms and highlight red flags
● Contact parents about questions from forms in advance of camp
● Work with nurses/Dr. On any relevant health plan issues
During Camp Season:
● Creating and implementing programming for small groups of campers focused on wellness and
social-emotional learning.
● Serving as a resource to campers and staff throughout the summer in facing mental, emotional
and social health challenges, and creating environments where campers can thrive.
● Managing information about camper and staff needs, and communicating those to staff, as well
as documenting communication and plans within SAC’s systems.
● Communicating and managing relationships with parents/caregivers in regards to camper
needs.
● Preparing reports to funding agencies in relationship to mental emotional and social health of
SAC and its campers, including sharing high-level understandings of interactions and
interventions taking place throughout the summer.
● Participate in Foundation for Jewish Camp’s Community of Practice as part of our camp’s
place in the Yedid Nefesh program, including two or three virtual gatherings and one in-person
gathering per year with other Jewish camp mental health professionals.
● Be an active presence on-site at camp as a part of the community.
● Coordinate with operations when there are physical needs of campers and staff that need
tending
● Support counselors in addressing issues/challenges that come up in bunks
● Support campers as appropriate, especially with homesick campers
● Take care of all laundry related camper emergencies.
● Be the first line of communication with campers who are homesick (meet daily with Kenny on
how it’s going)
● Be in charge of returning lost objects to campers- particularly after the short session
● Come in at bedtime to help with the younger campers (storytime, read books, etc)

Camper Care Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:
The Camper Care Coordinator is responsible for the positive resolution of camper and staff matters that may arise during the camp season. The Camper Care Coordinator is expected to provide campers and staff with meaningful and critical guidance to make healthy, responsible, and respectful choices. The Camper Care Coordinator plays a key role in supporting staff on topics including but not limited to: fostering positive social interactions, managing challenging camper behaviors and interpersonal disputes, identifying and supporting campers with special needs, homesickness and self-care. The Camper Care Coordinator embodies JCC Day Camp’s core values with interactions and decisions regarding camper care as well as being a positive, contributing member of the summer leadership team. The Camper Care Coordinator is expected to create strong relationships with campers and staff alike and exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills. This position requires a person with a variety of skills and the ability to transition from one situation to another quickly and intuitively while also showing compassion and empathy for campers and staff. This position does not have programmatic responsibilities but will be involved in pre-camp training sessions and ongoing staff development throughout the summer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Serve as a positive role model in the camp community and represent camp values
● Participate in required supervisor and staff training prior to camp
● Respond to camper and staff issues related to social, emotional, and mental health, safety, and well-being, including but not limited to: anxiety, behavior management, interpersonal disputes, homesickness, hygiene, and diagnosed disorders
● Respond and take lead on crisis situations including physical restraints and thoughts/comments about suicide
● Communicate with the camp leadership team to monitor and support the physical, social, and emotional health, safety, and well-being of campers and staff
● Act as liaison between summer leadership team, directors, and parents to identify and address patterns or concerns with camper and staff behaviors based on daily check-ins and observations
● Develop training modules and ongoing staff development opportunities that give staff the necessary tools and skills to provide proper camper care ranging from identifying special needs, to responding to challenging camper behavior, providing interventions and accommodations, and managing escalated and crisis situations
● Assist staff members with challenging camper situations and provide ongoing support to staff to respond to campers behavioral, emotional and mental health needs
● Consult with camp leadership team about significant concerns and issues that arise to determine appropriate response for campers, staff, and parents
● Observe and document camper situations/incidents, design behavior intervention and/or management plans, and monitor and report on progress
● Be aware of camper and staff behavior, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
● Debrief and provide guidance to campers and or staff after crises or stressful and traumatic events
● Provide staff with support for camper, camp and personal-related concerns
● Work with campers and staff individually or in groups, as needed
● Be present and available throughout the camp day
● Support the unit heads, which includes providing targeted training, manage scheduling and caseload(s), as well as provide feedback for performance feedback and evaluations
● Make parent phone calls and send emails as necessary
● Help maintain resources, best practices, and suggestions for future summers at end of the summer

Assistant Director of Camp Care

The Assistant Director: Camp Care at Camp Galil is responsible for supporting the mental, emotional, and social well-being of all campers and staff members. This staff member will serve as a critical component of our Camper Care Team and guide Galil in creating an environment that’s welcoming for all. The Assistant Director: Camp Care will assist staff members with managing the social dynamics and behavior of their campers, while assisting them in meeting camper needs. The Assistant Director: Camp Care will regularly speak with parents of campers to elicit collaboration in achieving success for their camper. Together with a team of talented individuals, the Assistant Director: Camp Care will help to ensure the attention to and support of each camper and staff member’s well-being while in our care, including our community members’ Mental, Emotional, and Social Health (MESH) needs.

This is a great opportunity to leverage previous professional experience in a role that offers seasonal flexibility and the opportunity for a mental health professional to work alongside year-round Professional Staff and a seasonal youth leadership team to employ strategic thinking, problem-solving, thoughtful, and intentional care and guidance, and the delicate and expert touch needed to help ensure the highest quality of care of our participants. With the primary goal of supporting campers, the Assistant Director: Camp Care will provide hands-on care to campers, with a focus on being a resource to staff members in their work with children at camp. The Assistant Director: Camp Care will also be a key point of contact for parents during the summer. Central to this position’s success is the educational and practical experience and insight regarding contemporary practices related to child development, social work, group dynamics, adolescent behavior, behavior management, and other related areas.

The Assistant Director: Camp Care’s role requires a great deal of flexibility and collaboration with Galil’s Professional Staff team and seasonal leadership team to be a direct source of support for campers, for staff in their work directly with campers aged 7 to 18 years, as well as for staff, as needed. The person will work on a year-round basis, living on-site and working fulltime in an immersive and intensive camp environment from June through August, and part-time (average 10 hours/week and 2-3 multi-day conferences) through the off-season (Sept-May). The Assistant Director: Camp Care, will be directly supervised by the Executive Director, and will work in partnership with the entire Camper Care team, which includes the youth leadership team and medical team.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Playing a leadership role in the planning and implementation of staff training and ongoing staff learning related to mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health (MESSH);
• Serving as a resource to campers and staff throughout the summer in facing mental, emotional and social health challenges, and creating environments where campers and staff can thrive.

• Provide counseling and interventions to campers and staff, as appropriate.

• Assist in recruiting campers and maintaining relationships with camp families throughout the year and over the summer.
• Serve as the lead in family/parent communication in relation to mental, social, and emotional health at camp.
• Oversee the intake process for new campers with identified needs, while continually screening camper information forms for potential unidentified areas for support (e.g. recent trauma, etc.)
• Assist in collecting camper forms, reviewing camper files pre-season, and documenting camper care/situations at camp.
• Be an active presence on-site at camp as a part of the community.
• Participate in the Foundation for Jewish Camp’s Community of Practice as part of the Yedid Nefesh program, including monthly calls, 2-3 virtual gatherings and one in-person gatherings per year with other Jewish camp mental health professionals.

Job Description: The Director of Community Care is a vital part of the Moshava Alevy team working in
the area of MESSH (Mental, Emotional, and Social Health) and wellbeing efforts of our camp program.
They provide ongoing support to create a successful experience for campers and staff with a range of
needs at camp. Working closely with the Community Care Team and the Camp Leadership Team, this
person provides both
administrative support, as well as direct service to campers and staff to provide an inclusive and
welcoming environment.
This role is a seasonal summer full-time position (on-site), with specific responsibilities before the summer
camp session begins. During the summer session, the position will include time on, on call hours
(including evenings), and flexible breaks. The Community Care team (including the Camp Director, Rosh
Moshava, and Camp Parents) will create the daily/weekly schedule collaboratively based on needs this
summer. During the pre-camp period work will be virtual. The Community Care Director reports to the
Camp Director.

(pre-camp and during the camp session)
● In coordination with Camp Parents, consulting with parents to provide updates and problem solve
any challenges in situations where behavior or adjustment issues arise
Administrative/General
● Preparing a summer-end reports to funding agencies in relationship to mental emotional and
social health of Moshava Alevy and its campers
● Being an active presence on-site at camp as a part of the community
● Assisting in supervising Camp Parents
● Keeping Director and appropriate other key leadership informed of all camper situations and
issues as they arise
● Additional responsibilities as required

Compensation:
All Moshava Alevy seasonal staff are provided comfortable living accommodations and 3 full meals per
day, 2 snacks per day, plus a base salary. If staff have children in camp (Gan, Mother’s Helper, camper
age), that may impact their salary

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Camper Care is focused on building strong relationships with camp families and supporting the mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health of our campers. This person will supervise our summer Camper Care team and liaise with the counselor, health center and office teams. During the year this person will conduct camper care screenings, coordinating with families, schools, therapists, and other care providers to develop individual support plans for camper success during the summer.

Year-Round (Remote or at our Philadelphia or Putnam Valley offices) [This list will be scaled based on the part-time commitment / availability of the successful applicant].

-Cultivate and maintain relationships with camp families that are rooted in excellent communication, trust, and partnership
-Manage camper intake, reviewing registration forms and building relationships within the Eden Village community, including recruitment for and supervision of the Kruvim Inclusion program
-In collaboration with camp staff, families, and other necessary parties, work before summer to create plans to support individual camper needs during the camp season
-Recruit, train and supervise the summer Camper Care team
-Collaborate on the visioning and design process for the Camper Care and Wellness track of our pre-camp staff orientation and facilitate key training sessions for staff
-Manage the camper profile process, including reviewing camper forms and summarizing key information for summer staff

Summer (In residence at Eden Village Camp June to August)
-Supervise and empower summer Camper Care team
-Manage summer Camper Care team as they support counselors and campers with a variety of issues related to social, emotional, and mental health, safety and well-being including but not limited to anxiety, behavior management, interpersonal disputes, homesickness, hygiene, and diagnosed disorders
-Serve as the lead professional in determining appropriate responses to the more significant camper and staff mental health and safety issues that arise
-Serve in residence as one of the camp social workers for 8 weeks of summer camp
-Manage camper care team and Kruvim program counselor schedules
-Provide ongoing support and training to staff throughout the summer to respond to campers behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs
-Communicate and partner regularly with parents to share camp updates and seek advice and perspective that will help our staff best support the physical, mental, social, and emotional health of our campers

Jewish Community Services (JCS) provides an array of clinical and concrete supports to help New York City’s Jewish community to address challenging problems throughout the life cycle.

HereNow, a program within JCS, is a teen mental health initiative that provides resources and programming to Jewish teens (13-18), parents, and youth-facing professionals in the NY-Metro area. Through web-based and social media platforms, HereNow empowers teens to use their own voices to talk about mental health issues and share resources. In-person programming is informed by a network of Jewish youth organizations, with a focus on anti-stigma, prevention and fostering resilience.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The program manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the HereNow program. This includes: building and maintaining community partnerships, engaging teens to participate in and contribute to the creation of web-based content and running programs that are responsive to emergent mental health needs and trends of Jewish teens.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Ongoing identification of information and resources about mental health for teens, parents and youth professionals.
• Developing and maintaining a network of Jewish Youth-facing organization and community partners
• Recruiting teens to write articles for HereNow; will edit and oversee all submissions
• Management of the Social Media Teen Leadership committee, including ongoing communications and meetings to drive content creation.
• In partnership with Jewish Board’s marketing department, coordination with 70 Faces Media for the preparation of online materials
• Maintaining all HereNow social media accounts
• Running programming and conducting training around teen mental health to professionals, parents and teens
• Providing consultation and referrals to teens and parents around community-based and mental health resources
• Representing HereNow within The Jewish Board, at the UJA-Federation, and in Youth Mental Health Roundtables
