Description
The Assistant Director of Community Engagement will serve as the primary connector between Camp Young Judaea Texas and our camper family community. This individual will play a pivotal role in strengthening relationships, increasing engagement, and ensuring Camp’s mission resonates year-round.
This is a year-round, full-time position based in Houston, Texas with summers spent at camp in Wimberley, Texas. This position reports directly to the Camp Director. Remote work from January 2025 – May 2025 can be discussed with the expectation to relocate to Houston after Summer 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Community Engagement & Relationship Building
- Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with camper families
- Plan and execute community events in Houston, Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio
- Create opportunities for alumni and families to stay connected with camp through events, reunions, and digital engagement
- Serve as a primary point of contact for families addressing inquiries and offering support
- Manage camper recruitment efforts, helping to ensure high retention rates and high new camper rates
- Represent Camp Young Judaea Texas at community events, synagogues, and schools to build awareness and deepen connections
- Collaborate with local and regional Jewish organizations to create partnerships and joint programming
- Design and deliver camp’s community updates, newsletters, and recruitment emails
- Manage the overall communications calendar ensuring that all emails are written, reviewed, and sent on time
Summer Camp Responsibilities:
- Serve on the highest level of leadership in a supervisory capacity
- Work with the full-time team to develop Staff Orientation and Head Staff Week
- Work with the leadership team to ensure a positive and enriching summer experience for campers and staff.
- Manage evaluation tools for staff, campers, and families throughout the summer
Compensation
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as Jewish Studies, education, communications, or a related area
- Experience working in a summer camp setting, with a strong understanding of camp culture and programming
- Involvement in Jewish youth programming, with experience planning or leading Jewish community programs or events
- Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for building relationships.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Familiarity with Jewish traditions, values, and culture, with a love for Jewish summer camp
- Availability to live on-site during the summer and flexibility to travel for community events as needed
- Experience with Google Suite and mass-email platforms such as Mail Chimp, Constant Contact, etc. is a plus
