Camp Nurse

Camp Bauercrest

Description

You’ll serve as a champion of wellness throughout the camp community by administering daily medications, monitoring chronic conditions, and responding confidently to health emergencies when they arise. Accurate and timely medical documentation is a key part of this role, and you’ll maintain up-to-date health records in accordance with American Camp Association (ACA) standards.

Working closely with fellow nurses, you’ll help ensure 24/7 Health Center coverage on a rotating schedule, so campers and staff always have access to care and support. You’ll also take part in opening and closing the Health Center, organizing supplies, managing inventory, and making sure the space is fully prepared for the start of camp and properly closed at the end of the season.

Beyond clinical care, you’ll play an important educational role by teaching campers and staff about hygiene, safety, and healthy habits, helping to build a culture of wellness across camp. You’ll partner closely with parents as well, communicating proactively about camper health needs, medications, and any medical concerns to ensure families feel informed, reassured, and supported.

You’ll respond to health calls and emergencies by following established camp protocols, coordinate appointments with local medical providers when needed, manage first aid kits across camp, and help bridge the gap between basic care and emergency response. As with all roles at camp, flexibility is essential—you’ll be ready to step in wherever your skills and experience are needed to help camp run safely and smoothly.

Compensation

$1200-1600/week

Requirements

Applicants must be a Massachusetts-licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and authorized to practice in the state. Current CPR and First Aid certification are required. Camp Bauercrest is seeking both full-season, live-at-camp nurses and nurses available for rotating coverage, including one- to two-week rotations and scheduled shift coverage throughout the summer. Camp dates run from June 15 through August 12, and availability during this period is essential. Candidates must demonstrate strong clinical and organizational skills, including confidence managing health forms, medical documentation, medication administration systems, and healthcare records. Experience in pediatric, adolescent, or camp nursing is strongly preferred, though not required. This role requires the ability to work effectively with children, teens, and young adults ages 7–24, as well as to communicate clearly and professionally with fellow staff members and parents. Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm, decisive, and proactive in both routine care and emergency situations are essential. Nurses must be adaptable, comfortable living and working in a residential camp setting, and committed to maintaining a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for all campers and staff. A strong work ethic, enthusiasm for working with young people, and a deep commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing are fundamental expectations of this position.
