Camp Ben Frankel (CBF) is an overnight summer camp located in Makanda, IL for children ages 7-17 in search of a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive Jewish community. Camp Ben Frankel has consistently rated #1 by the Foundation for Jewish Camp amongst Jewish camps in North America according to surveys of customer and employee satisfaction, including in measures of physical safety and mental health support.

DATES:
Our camp is in session from June 4, 2026 – August 2, 2026.
We strongly prefer candidates who can commit to one or more shifts of at least 7 days during our camp season, but we are open to applicants from individuals who can only commit to shorter shifts. We are currently hiring for shifts across our entire season.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Attend to illnesses or injuries of both campers and staff

– Monitor health of campers and staff; provides care for all injured or ill campers and staff

– Provides care for camper and staff illness and injury using best practice protocols and within scope of practice

– Serves as a first responder during medical incidents

– Recommends to the Nursing Director when a child or staff member should be sent home, to a doctor, to urgent care, or to the hospital for medical reasons.

– Administer both OTC and prescription medications to campers and staff at designated times

– Maintain accurate and up to date records of medication administration, illness and injury assessment and care delivered to campers and staff.

– Consults with and makes appointments, when necessary, with medical/dental offices in the local community

– Consults with Nursing Director in monitoring/evaluating camp procedures, facilities, and conditions and recommends modifications that would create more healthful conditions at camp

– Makes sure that medications brought to camp are properly labeled, stored and maintained.

– Maintain a clean and stocked health center with appropriate supplies and medications for the health center.

– Checks, maintains, and issues first aid kits when needed.

– Requests supplies as needed to maintain an appropriately stocked health center.

– Prepares first aid kits for off camp trips and restocks them after each trip.

– Provides Epi-Pens and camper medication as needed to trip leader prior to departure..

– Obtains lists of campers and staff scheduled for upcoming trips and discusses special needs with the leadership team members leading that trip.

– Keep accident/incident reports that can be used for risk-management assessment according to system defined by Nursing Director.

– Organizes and logs incident reports into medical log.

– Keeps clear, accurate and concise records on all campers and staff.

– Updates a daily medical log and medication log.

– Is always stationed on-site at camp (or with camp if all camp is on an out of site field trip) while on duty and is available in case of a medical event or injury.

– Monitors a camp-issued walkie-talkie and responds as-needed.

– These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.

ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION
Compensation Package Worth Up To $4,050 per week ($16,200 for four weeks)
– Salary: $1500 per week

– Tuition included for each week, for up to two children per week, valued at $1100 per child per week

– Travel reimbursement

– Room and board valued at $350 per week

Requirements

- Must be an RN and must hold a license to practice in the state of Illinois. - Pediatric experience preferred. Camp experience and/or school nurse experience is a plus. - Hard-working, enthusiastic and committed to community safety and well-being. - Adaptable and comfortable living in a camp setting. - Can provide, update, and monitor healthcare; maintain records; implement health plans. - Makes decisions based upon best practices and standards of care. - Ability to work well in a team environment. - Camp Ben Frankel is a thriving Jewish camp, and we're looking for amazing staff from all walks of life to make this summer unforgettable.
