Inclusion Counselor (Kruvim Counselor)

Position Overview:
The Inclusion Counselor will support and care for individual campers with special needs as part of
Eden Village Camp’s Kruvim inclusion program. The Kruvim Program is a small, one-on-one inclusion
program designed to help children who need specialized support and social facilitation in order to get
the most out of the camp experience. The Inclusion Counselor’s role is to help their camper fully
integrate into every aspect of camp. This may include helping to foster a positive group dynamic with
special attention towards their camper’s inclusion in the social life of the bunk and supporting their
camper with executive functioning. The Inclusion Counselor will live in the bunk with their dedicated
camper. When not supporting their individual camper, the Inclusion Counselor may step into other
bunks or groups to support as needed. Special training will be provided for the Inclusion Counselor,
and a special schedule may be required.

Responsibilities and Expectations:
● Act as a bridge to facilitate inclusion and relationship-building between the dedicated Kruvim camper and other campers.
● Provide opportunities for campers to achieve successes.
● Recognize and respond to opportunities for individual and group problem-solving.
● Monitor cleanliness and camper’s health.
● Supervise all aspects of the camp day.
● Help create and participate in bunk activities.
● Facilitate participation in bunk activities for children with social challenges.
● Communicate with campers through Non Violent Communication techniques.
● Respect and support a pluralistic Jewish community.
● Assist in a number of tasks as assigned.
● Work well with other staff.
● Responsible for adhering to all camp rules and policies.
● May be responsible for staying in the cabin several nights a week.

All staff at Eden Village, regardless of their job, should expect to support the running of camp in a variety of ways that are not outlined here. As a community working collectively to keep 200 children safe and happy, each summer is full of unexpected blessings and challenges. We rely on our staff member’s flexibility to meet those challenges.

Important Things to Know About Working at Eden Village:
● We are a pluralistic community, and we expect all staff to be able to live and work with kindness and respect with people from different backgrounds, political ideologies, religious and gender identities, etc, than themselves.
● Our food is amazing! We eat mostly vegetarian food at Eden Village. We serve meat once per week and fish twice per week. Staff are not permitted to bring takeout or outside food into camp.
● All staff receive at least 2.5 hours off per day.
● All staff receive days off. Specialist educators receive a 40-hour day off 6 times during the 8 weeks of camp. All other staff receive one 25-hour day off per week.
● All staff are responsible for their travel to and from camp (unless you are coming with an international agency that books your travel for you). We are not able to host staff on site before or after your contracted start and end date.
● We hire staff from Israel, North America, South America, Europe, and all over the world.
● There is no smoking or vaping allowed on site.
● All staff must be back in their bunks by midnight every night.

Compensation

$2,300

Requirements

● Have a strong understanding of children with special psychological, mental health and social-emotional needs, and/or experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum
● Able to create an environment where campers feel emotionally and physically safe
● Excellent communication skills, a willingness to learn and love of nature are essential
● Able to put the needs of the campers before the needs of self
● Preferred undergraduate study in special education, developmental psychology or demonstrated equivalent classwork or experience
● Able and willing to accept supervision and guidance
● Acceptance of irregular work hours
● Must be at least 18 years old, and are expected to stay at camp the entire season and attend staff training
