Qualifications:
Minimum age of 21 years.
One of the following must be true:
Has spent one season of previous experience as a camp aquatics director at a NYS children’s camp.
Has spent two seasons (12 cumulative weeks minimum) as a children’s camp lifeguard at a bathing facility that requires more than one lifeguard for supervision
Has spent at least 18 cumulative weeks as a lifeguard at a bathing facility that requires more than one lifeguard for supervision.
Possesses a current certificate in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid Certification from the American Red Cross, or will renew certification prior to camp.
Completed a training course in lifeguard supervision and management, or will complete the course prior to camp.
Possesses Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification from the American Red Cross, or will obtain certification prior to camp.

Compensation

$6300 - $8400

Requirements

Responsibilities: Supervise all swim activities and monitor participants in the swim area: Implement and oversee the buddy check system, ensuring campers and staff are accounted for. Assess children’s swimming abilities and group them accordingly for swim instruction. Ensure that children and staff in the pool area wear appropriate swimwear and report any non-compliance to the Camp Director. Work one evening until 8 PM for staff night. Supervise swim staff: Plan and conduct swim staff training prior to camp. Facilitate ongoing training and development for swim staff throughout the summer. Assign lifeguard staff to provide swim instruction to campers in the morning and, if necessary, in the afternoon. Create a break schedule for swim staff. Evaluate lifeguards midway twice throughout the summer and provide written feedback to the Camp Director. Oversee pool maintenance & compliance: Attend staff orientation prior to the start of camp. Prepare the pool for opening at the beginning of summer. Annually review and document the review of the camp’s safety plan for swimming. Oversee the cleaning and vacuuming of the pool. Order chlorine and pool chemicals from the pool company as needed and inform the Camp Director of these orders. Monitor chlorine and pH levels in the pool, logging this information in a bound logbook three times daily. Ensure chemical levels are safe for swimming. Oversee and operate swim program, including swim lessons: Organize and implement programming for rainy days. Make a brief presentation at orientation about the swim program and expectations for staff. Manage swim lessons, assign lifeguards, communicate schedule changes to campers' grown ups, track swim lesson attendance for payment purposes and report numbers to the Camp Director weekly. Communicate with campers’ grown ups: Oversee swim progress notes and distribute them to parents midway through and at the end of the summer. Communicate with parents as needed regarding swim activities. Important Dates: Mandatory Staff Orientation: June (exact dates TBA) Camper Meet and Greet: Week before camp (exact day TBA) Camp Session: June 30 – August 15, 2024 (closed July 4th) Hours: 8:20 A.M. – 4:15 P.M. Bi-Weekly Staff Meetings: 7:45 A.M. Compensation: $900 to $1,200 weekly, commensurate with experience, $30 per 20 minute swim lesson. This position description is not intended to be all-inclusive but serves as a generalized guide for the job duties. Management may change job responsibilities and expectations based on business requirements. This position is intended to comply with State and Federal regulations.
