Camp Care Coordinator

J Camp

Description

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Camp Care Coordinator will look out for the mental, emotional, social,
and spiritual health (MESSH) of the J Camp community, including campers, staff, and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve as a general resource to campers and staff throughout the summer in facing mental, emotional and
social health challenges, and creating environments where campers and staff can thrive.
• Guide staff in their decision making to best support their campers and coworkers.
• Review camper and staff forms to prepare for the start of camp and schedule meetings with families to discuss
further as needed.
• Distribute pertinent information to relevant parties and ensure confidentiality is kept.
• Maintain MESSH records, including documenting observations and conversations, reviewing accident/illness
and incident reports, and completing reports requested by Foundation for Jewish Camp.
• Design and lead training for staff on camper care, staff care, and self-care, to be run during pre-camp training
and weekly staff meetings.
• Provide resources to families and staff when they would benefit from help outside of J Camp’s purview.
• Mediate discussions between staff members as needed.
• Attend 2-4 Community of Practice gatherings before camp with other camp MESSH professionals as part of
Yedid Nefesh program participation.
• Communicate regularly with the Camp Director and other members of the camp leadership team; share
recommendations with Camp Director on an ongoing basis and through end-of-camp report.
• Uphold the diversity, equity and inclusion values and practices of the SJCC by ensuring that all materials,
activities, and interactions are sensitive to, and reflective of, the diverse populations we serve.
• Attend required staff training and meetings. Share info at meetings as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• J Camp runs June 24-August 23, with training before the start of camp

Compensation

$28+/hour

Requirements

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements
listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience:
• Graduate-level or higher degree in a mental health field, including, but not limited to: social work, mental
health counseling, psychology, youth psychiatry, family therapy, etc.
• 3-5 years of post-graduate work experience in a related field preferred.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification for adults/children/infants, or willing to take courses before the
start of camp (training will be offered through the J).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations.
• Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with campers, team members, and supervisors.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work effectively independently and in a team setting.
• Ability to exercise good judgment
Additional Employment Requirements:
• Satisfactorily pass a criminal background check.
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (employees may make requests for a reasonable accommodation in

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The information described below represents the physical activities and surroundings one may encounter when performing
the duties of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform

Physical Demands: To perform the job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear on the telephone and
in person with individuals and groups. The incumbent may occasionally be required to carry materials weighing up
to 25 pounds.
Environmental Conditions: The work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, with a moderate/loud
noise level, and exposure to hot summer weather. Local travel may be required.
