Assistant Director – Programming & Logistics, Camp Seneca Lake

The Assistant Director oversees all programs and events related to the summer and year-round camper experience at Camp Seneca Lake (CSL). This broad-based position includes but is not limited to: oversight of the day-to-day operation of our summer camp programming, overseeing special events, managing our specialty area seasonal staff, and coordinating logistics.

This is a full-time, year-round position. Our team includes a mix of staff based in Rochester and remotely, and we are open to candidates in Rochester or based elsewhere during the year. Summers are spent at camp in Penn Yan, NY and private living quarters are provided.

• Develop, create, and own the summer Master Calendar and Master Schedule in conjunction with CSL programming team.
• Begin work on major camp events and all-camp programs, including Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Campstock, Mass Program, and Color War
• Plan and organize CSL Family Camp serving as main point of contact for campers and family, and support the organization of Alumni Weekend
• Participate in regular strategy sessions with camp management team to identify and address ongoing areas of focus

• Review previous summer inventories, make budget recommendations, and order supplies in advance of next season
• Schedule all necessary program area trainings and inspections to ensure Staff has the appropriate certifications to run assigned areas
• Plan all out-of-camp experiences to ensure meaningful and well-organized programs, including coordinating transportation, food, and materials
• Organize bus logistics for arrival and departure days

Staff development
• In collaboration with Director, Assistant Director of Camper & Staff Experience and Human Resources, conduct pre-season staff interviews for specialist staff and specialist Leadership team members
• Develop training materials for staff to ensure quality programming during summer

• Serve as primary and direct supervisor for summer programming team, summer logistics leader, and most specialists. Perform regular evaluations for these staff and serve as a support and resource for them
• Develop and maintain summer program schedules and master calendar in conjunction with programming team to ensure the smooth operation of the day-to-day summer camp program
• Coordinate all camp-wide programming
• Support Programming Director in managing program-related staff committees, and provide resources to Unit programmers
• Ensure smooth running of specialty areas, including curriculum development in relevant areas
• Develop system for program write-ups and evaluations, and ensure they are completed in a timely manner

• Manage supply requisition system and ensure all necessary supplies are ordered/gathered for all programs
• Manage program equipment including inventory and organization pre-, during, and post- summer (including assigned responsibilities for closing down camp at the end of the season)
• Support Unit Heads with out-of-camp trip logistics including transportation, food, and materials
