Mental Health Professional

Reporting: This position reports to the Camp Director
Responsibilities:
Prior to Camp Season:
● Play a leadership role in the planning and implementation of staff training and ongoing staff
learning related to mental, emotional, social and spiritual health (MESSH)
● Work with Directors on staff training and developing a plan for ongoing staff learning
● Develop plan to check on Mental Health and Wellness for campers and staff
● Review camper forms and highlight red flags
● Contact parents about questions from forms in advance of camp
● Work with nurses/Dr. On any relevant health plan issues
During Camp Season:
● Creating and implementing programming for small groups of campers focused on wellness and
social-emotional learning.
● Serving as a resource to campers and staff throughout the summer in facing mental, emotional
and social health challenges, and creating environments where campers can thrive.
● Managing information about camper and staff needs, and communicating those to staff, as well
as documenting communication and plans within SAC’s systems.
● Communicating and managing relationships with parents/caregivers in regards to camper
needs.
● Preparing reports to funding agencies in relationship to mental emotional and social health of
SAC and its campers, including sharing high-level understandings of interactions and
interventions taking place throughout the summer.
● Participate in Foundation for Jewish Camp’s Community of Practice as part of our camp’s
place in the Yedid Nefesh program, including two or three virtual gatherings and one in-person
gathering per year with other Jewish camp mental health professionals.
● Be an active presence on-site at camp as a part of the community.
● Coordinate with operations when there are physical needs of campers and staff that need
tending
● Support counselors in addressing issues/challenges that come up in bunks
● Support campers as appropriate, especially with homesick campers
● Take care of all laundry related camper emergencies.
● Be the first line of communication with campers who are homesick (meet daily with Kenny on
how it’s going)
● Be in charge of returning lost objects to campers- particularly after the short session
● Come in at bedtime to help with the younger campers (storytime, read books, etc)
