Day Camp Satisfaction Insights
The Day Camper Satisfaction Insights Surveys provide a look at what family and staff really think of everything—from programming to safety, and food to facilities. This in-depth professionally designed research tool helps camps pinpoint strengths and growth opportunities according to respondents’ feedback. By revealing potential areas for improvement, camp leadership can identify an action plan that will help them better serve campers, staff, and parents.
DCSI surveys help camps:
- Determine areas of strength for the camper experience.
- Identify areas of opportunity in programming, fundraising, facilities, marketing, retention, alumni, and more.
- Manage perceptions and expectations of camper families.
- Streamline opportunities for greater communications, marketing and recruitment.
DCSI: Collect and Utilize Camper and Parent Feedback
- This survey helps you understand what campers and parents think about your camp, from the activities offered to safety measures and facilities.
- The survey provides valuable insights into areas where you’re excelling and areas for improvement.
- A live dashboard allows you to gather feedback before the summer is over and adjust as you see fit.
DCSSI: Improve Staff Engagement
- This survey focuses on staff satisfaction, providing insights to inform your hiring and retention strategies.
- By understanding your staff’s experience, you can create a more positive work environment and keep your team happy.
NEW OPT-IN FEATURES:
- Write up to three fully customizable questions for each survey.
- Collect the email addresses of family and staff who have filled out the survey so you may do targeted outreach and/or an incentive program. Email addresses will be kept separate from survey answers.
- Administer a 3 question mid-summer pulse survey for staff, at no additional cost.
- Schedule a check in call with a member of the Satisfaction Insights team in late July/early August to strategize enhanced survey administration.

When Should I Send My Surveys Out?
DCSI
We recommend sending the DCSI survey out to families whenever their time at camp is over. If a family is only enrolled in camp for session 1, send it to them at the end of session 1. If a family is attending sessions 1, 5, and 8, send it to them after session 8. You should only send out one survey per family, not per camper.
DCSSI
The DCSSI should go out to staff at the end of the summer. We suggest scheduling time to do it while staff are still physically at camp and provide a snack or treat.
How Is This Year’s DCSI and DCSSI Different Than in the Past?
NEW OPT-IN FEATURES:
- Write up to three fully customizable questions for each survey.
- Collect the email addresses of family and staff who have filled out the survey so you may do targeted outreach and/or an incentive program. Email addresses will be kept separate from survey answers.
- Administer a 3 question mid-summer pulse survey for staff.
- Schedule a check in call with a member of the Satisfaction Insights team in late July/early August.
What are the dashboards? What do they include?
The data dashboards display your camp’s data in real time throughout the summer as you receive feedback. You will be able to see key respondent demographics including gender, grade, and number of summers spent at camp. The dashboards will also include respondents’ written feedback for each overall dimensional measure.
What Are the Pre and Post Summer Webinars, and Why Are These Valuable?
Pre- and post-summer webinars are value-adds that are included in the cost of DCSI/DCSSI participation.
The pre-camp webinar helps participating camps understand the tools for a crystal clear sense of what you’ll be asking your staff and families to complete. We’ll also share ideas for getting the highest response rates so that your data is representative of the staff and camper experiences. We’ll teach you how to check and recheck your data dashboard so that you can make adjustments in real time.
In the fall, participating camps are invited to a private half-day workshop to delve into your DCSI/DCSSI results while getting ahead on 2025 recruitment and retention plans. Get support and guidance tailored to day camp professionals. This workshop has a proven track record of helping day camp professionals increase their camp’s enrollment.
What kinds of questions will the surveys ask families and staff to answer?
The DCSI will ask families to provide their reflections and satisfaction ratings with:
- The overall experience
- Camp programming & facilities
- The social emotional environment at camp
- Camp policies and communication
- Demographics
The DCSSI measures and provides insights regarding:
- How camp impacts staff skill development
