Professional Development
An investment in the talented camp professionals who make Jewish camp possible is an investment in the enriching camp experiences that FJC strives to create.
The best camp professionals are constantly striving to improve, never being complacent with their skill set—talented as they may be. FJC offers a wide range of trainings and seminars throughout the year for full-time camp professionals. See our events for additional upcoming opportunities.
Shalom Bayit
The world we live in is an increasingly complex place, and maintaining community at camp among those with different perspectives is harder than ever before. FJC seeks to provide camp leadership with tools, resources, methodologies, and clarity to confidently lead camp for the future. Camp is looked to as a second home for campers and staff, and ‘shalom bayit’ can be a lens to create environments of respect, kindness, and love while acknowledging varying perspectives on Israel, domestic politics, and more. In this project, camp leaders will participate in virtual workshops and individual/team coaching over a 10-month period in order to help maintain shalom bayit at camp, prioritizing community above the individual in difficult times. Camps will also have access to a minimum of $2,500 for implementation.

FJC invites you to join us, in partnership with the Spertus Institute, for Elevate Israel, a program designed to increase participants’ knowledge and confidence of Israel and Israeli history. This program is intended for full-time camp professionals that oversee the Israel education portfolio at their camps. Participating camp professionals will attend two zoom sessions in April to set the stage for a 3-day intensive in-person seminar in Chicago at the Spertus Institute, led Spertus faculty. The seminar will be followed up with two zoom sessions, one before the summer and one after.
